**UPDATE**
Hello everyone!
Thank you so SO much for your patience with regards to this latest run of ROTJ hilts!
As I've mentioned previously, I felt that it was very important to fulfil existing orders before moving on to this next project.
I'm very pleased to announce that that day has finally arrived, and I've been busy preparing for the publication of my new site, which will be going live very soon!
Thanks again for the phenomenal amount of interest that this next run of ROTJ hilts has received! It’s truly unexpected and very much appreciated!
Apologies if I’m repeating myself, but I’d just like to explain again how my last couple of runs have made me completely rethink the way that I go about offering my work...
It's been a huge honour, and a privilege to work on all of my past projects of course. They have not been without their problems though, and this last one was particularly difficult for a number of reasons:
- Manufacturing costs increasing **after** setting the price (and taking payments).
- PayPal freezing my freshly made business account due to increased activity (Now Resolved).
- Looong delays in manufacturing due to a variety of global factors.
- Me massively underestimating the amount of time it would take to complete weathering commissions... (That one's on me!)
- Generally taking on too much in one go. (Also on me!)
It all worked out in the end, but it's been a very long process, and if it weren't for the incredible patience and understanding of this fantastic community, it might have been a different story!
I've learnt some valuable lessons and think that my plan for the future will be better for everyone!
Going forward there will be no more upfront payments for the manufacturing of parts. Parts will always be made and in stock before any payments are taken.
Stock will be added to my site in manageable numbers, with a 28day prep time. This is a conservative estimate and airing on the side of caution. Orders will of course be sent out as soon as possible, and in some cases will ship out the same day.
So briefly, going forward there will be two golden rules:
- Orders/payments will only be taken if/when all required parts are in stock.
- Stock will only be added in quantities which will allow for orders to be fulfilled within a 28day period.
So, "when will the site be launched?" you might ask....
Well, VERY soon!
All of the main parts are in stock already (and have been for some time!). I am still waiting on a couple of small (but very important) parts however…
I am waiting on the arrival of my replica reveal boards before I will be able to list the heroes for sale.
The search for a manufacturer and a suitable material was not an easy one, and had me literally scouring the globe!
Modern day fiberglass materials don't do a terrible job of replicating the original board, but the phenolic paper boards I have in production currently should be an even closer colour match.
Here is a very early prototype made from modern FR4 PCB materials. As you can see, the colour is a little too light compared with the vintage boards.
In the next couple of weeks, I should receive my updated board, and will be able to offer Hero kits and commissions.
Yuma Parts are also in stock, but I am currently part way through updating the paint stencils based on better references. I’d like to get an example of these latest parts painted using the updated stencils before taking any orders. Otherwise, I would be using out of date photographs from previous runs.
As I previously mentioned, I do have a handful of vintage boards available for some extra special Hero commissions. I did consider publishing the site with just these vintage heroes in stock. I figured it would be a good test of the site. They obviously don’t require the replica reveal board, so I can begin work on these straight away.
I got to work putting these together to offer on the site:
All but one of these (my last remaining B variant) have now been claimed, however...
It seems a bit pointless now to launch the site for a single hilt, so I’ve decided to wait until the replicas are ready to go. This will only be a short time. Possibly a week or two. This gives me time to work on the following before launch:
- Complete Vintage Hero commissions
- Finish Updating Yuma Stencils
- Get some Hero/ISYHCANL/Yuma bodies painted ahead of launch
So… For now, if you can just bear with me, the wait is almost over!
In the mean time, I have ONE vintage LC-785b available for a fully vintage Hero commission.
It will include:
- Vintage LC-785b reveal board
- Vintage Exactra 20 control box switch
- Empty LC-785b case (reassembled for display)
- Vintage blue Vectorbord card
- Replica Death Star II brass sections
- Choice of Brass or Copper rails
- Full weathering of your choice (on set/current day)
Pricing for the vintage “B” variant is £550 + Plus Shipping (shipping charged upon completion and approval of work)
Please do get in touch if you would like to claim this last one (first come first served).
**EDIT** **NOW SOLD** **Thank you!**
By selling these vintage examples separately, it will simplify the site on launch as the number of options were beginning to get a little bit confusing.
Now, when the site is launched, there will be replica DIY kits and finished commissions. Control boxes and reveal boxes will be available separately still as both DIY kits and fully assembled.
A HUGE thank you to
3251bimmer for his help in updating the brass Death Star II sections for the reveal board!
I managed to find a number of sections that corresponded directly with his vintage ILM pieces. For areas that didn't match up, I referred back to the prop reference.
He kindly agreed to me including replicas of his actual pieces as part of the kit. I figured that if we're having the brass cut for the boards, it would be nice to get them made at the same time. Here are Shane's original pieces sat on top of the replicas:
Thanks again Shane!
I thought it was about time that I shared some images of the new parts.
Please bare in mind that these are the raw, un-weathered parts. Surface level details such as tool marks will be added as part of my weathering commission. I’ll be showcasing the results of this next week when I have a finished example ready.
For now though, here are some images of the fresh, un-weathered parts:
Heroes and ISYHCANL will have a choice of brass or copper rails. DIY kits will be supplied with both.
It’s been an incredibly busy week, and I really wanted to show more. But I hadn’t factored in half term holidays...
I’m now in full ROTJ mode though and hope to have a lot more to show next week, including some fully assembled/weathered hilts.
As soon as I have a better idea of the exact date that the shop will be going live I'll be in touch with everyone ahead of time to give everyone an opportunity to get in on the first batch of replicas to be made available.
For now though, I'll be signing off and concentrating on finishing these vintage Heroes, as well as the updated Yuma stencils.
I hope you like how everything is shaping up.
Have a great weekend everyone!
All the best and MTFBWY!
