Defined Green Lantern Comic Rings

By the way, I recently gave one of my older REBIRTH test prints to a coworker, to then give to her 15-year-old daughter, who's an adorable nerd.

I'm told it went over very well with her.

Spreading that green light!
That's awesome spread the love. I use to hand out the promotional GL rings at cons to little kids. Told them they were worthy. Kids who wore villain's costumes got Sinsetro rings, and I said spread Fear!

After a long break, I’ve started reexamining the models. I need to take more time to review them, but I may well just order some test prints of the current iterations and go from there.

There were a couple decent Kyle Rayner style rings on there I had meant to buy at some point. I'm not finding those same designs anywhere else either.

Back to working on the Gil Kane V1. Wasn’t happy with the shape of the finger-hole on the underside of the disc platform. This new iteration is a little cleaner.

Also, totally by accident, I hit JUST the right angle to make the simulated lighting give the ring a glowing effect.

Found time to get a little more work in. I decided to lower the bezel height from 3mm to 2.5, matching the REBIRTH style. And I think I’ve finally gotten a band size and shape that I really like from all angles. We’ll see after I lock down the next batch for test printing.

The radical fluctuations in this particular design have been vexing. SO many variations during Gil Kane’s run. I’ve tried to find an idealized/compromise version which…er…rings true with some of the more notable drawings of the ring (such as in GREEN LANTERN # 40, a hugely important issue, both for GL lore and the DC Universe as a whole).

Decided to swap out the 23mm Gardner ring for the 21mm. It just seems to look better with a smaller gem bezel, although that means it’s no longer a yellow version of the EMERALD DAWN.

Just comparing the two main types of designs—the classic signet rings and the symbol-charm versions.

It’s interesting to go from the classic Gil Kane look to the sleeker M.D. Bright to the smaller and more traditional Van Sciver then to the streamlined Van Sciver. 50 years of evolution in four designs.

There’s a similar evolution from Joe Staton’s simple charm-on-band to the tri-band (which I’ve really come to like a lot) to Patrick Gleason’s more dimensional version of the symbol.

I knew you were a man of good tastes ;D The tri-band with squared off symbol is my favorite.

I don't think it was until that last test print that it clicked for me. I'd previously felt it looked too "busy", but the tri-band is rather stylish, and provides a nice gripping surface for putting on/taking off the ring.

Agreed~ It's tasteful and stylish :3 Oh, this is slightly off topic but I wanted to share - I got my own 3D printer!! One of my earliest test prints was a ring too! It was the new Sorrow Lantern. Not sure how to feel about that guy but hey, new rings to mess with.
