Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge- step by step description of lightsaber building experience

I’m on the fence as to whether I want to pay for this saber/experience. The legacy hilts seem like a much better deal.

However, I’m hoping we get third party compatible parts for these one day. Could make it worth it if you know you have more options for components down the line.

It looks an awful lot like the old Master Replicas Build Your Own Lightsaber kit from 08-ish.

With the die cast parts that only look okay at best, all the pieces are oversized and misshapen, metal with a lot of paint on them so they look like the plastic parts from a distance etc. I'm not so sure about this.

Yeesh, these things look FAR worse than I had originally thought.

Count me out! Not that I was really ever "IN", but it seemed like a neat idea. Unfortunately, the final product looks REALLY cheap, and utterly underwhelming.

Yes, this is what its looking like.

Ill have to decide when I see them in person.
Right now its looking like a hard pass.

How is that possible? Is there some sort of soft opening? The land doesn’t open till 31 May.

Based on the Celebration photos and the way they are made, the hilts will tend to be on the fatter side. IMHO, the first two categories, Peace and Justice / Power and Control don’t look as good due to this, but the other two Elemental Nature / Protection and Defense. I’m very excited about the Elemental Nature. I’ve been looking at the available pieces to decide what I want. For sure getting the Rancor tooth pommel.
Cast Member preview days

I want to do this but based on the the other Star Wars merchandise and costs, I may hold off till a later visit.

I'm looking forward to doing the Nature Elemental version.

Above represents all the parts for that nature and elements.

Here is what I am thinking. If you look at the one on the right, I like the way they have the design from the emitter, upper body and switch. If you look at the other hilt at the left, I would take the part for the leather wrapping for the lower body and finish it with the rancor tooth pommel. I of course have a personal like for purple blades so I would choose the violet crystal.

I remember having a Hasbro build your own saber kit that was effectively exactly like these, with the interchangeable crystals making different ignition and clash sounds. The biggest difference aside from being plastic was having to change a little circular colored lens at the emitter end to give the blades color

I'd say it is the same in a way you might say a big wheel and go cart are the same.

They have been doing that at Star Tours (and then later at other areas of the properties) for years. Click link below...

They started with bins of the kit parts and you could build a single or double bladed lightsaber. Later they changed the core from the old C battery hilt with a single old fashion flighlight bulb to a core using smaller batteries and the multi LED light source. They also updated parts and introduced new parts like Kylo Ren cross guard. They will probably keep doing these at Star Tours.

While the build process is basically the same, (slipping pieces over a core and adding a blade), that's about the end of the similarities. The new experience has you building a metal FX lightsaber with scrolling LED blade, and not a plastic flashlight with plastic tube.

The other thing is that this is not something you walk up and build and pay for. It is an experience. I heard it is a 20 minutes long. So far from the reports, people have been very happy with it.

The NFC chip stuff with the crystals is cool, but these really should have had some metal parts instead of looking like plastic toys.

I wasn’t meaning my post to be an indictment of the new sabers, I was just genuinely reminded of that old kit I had when I was a kid.

I don’t know if I’ll personally build a saber, I’m more of a blaster kind of guy, but the experience sounds pretty interesting overall. Very curious what their throughput will be.

I would like to see them offer a “scavengers bag” of randomized parts that are left over from the different saber building attempts as time goes on.

They could really open up a nice trading dynamic and it would be a way to get the custom sabers into the hands of people who can’t/don’t care to go through the full experience.

They would have to sell the handles/cores separately of course but that could help keep their profits in line with a hilt being ~80, a scavengers bag something like 45-50, and the blades their current price

Uggh. The more Im seeing these the more Im disappointed.
Why did they have to be big, fat and plastic looking?

I guess I may pickup a legacy saber.

The hilts may not look that great, but the experience itself does look like a lot of fun. I can't wait to do it.
