Disney Studios Backlot Tour Help & Questions

HOLY CRAP! The gold one was on another tour at the studio many years ago, they would introduce different robots and he would roll out and say hi and roll back! am i correct? does anyone remember that or was i dreaming! does anyone have any pictures of him? total icon of my childhood! i think it was on a tour where they showed you how they film submarine scenes and a wave tank and other stuff right?

I know the regular one sold for $125,000.00 recently I wonder if they'll ever sell the gold one... or even if it still exists.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qgmJLovplo but i wish there was more on him!

ok now your are in my old home!....I worked there in 1995, my first role as a new castmember, I was a tour guide for the Inside the Magic and Special Effects Production tour. Here's what I remember being in the Special Effects workshop as you enter the first part of the tour. A few months later I worked as an Emcee here so took an inventory of what was in there.. so here's what I recall

1. Tik Tok, and various other characters from RTO
2. various matt paintings from Peter Ellenshaw
3. Hyperion Airship
4. silver painted tri motor about 5 foot
5. Golden Arrow nitrate ship from 20,000 Leagues under the Sea
6. Johnny5
7. Maximillian 18" or so maquette
8. Maximillion 1:1 scale
8. Captain EO
9. Large scale train from Dick Tracy and various appliances and masks from DT as well
10. here's a big find i didnt recognize of the bat but later figured it out and about blew a cap! a master pattern of the Tie Fighter command sphere, ready to mold..it was a half sphere so i guess they ran it twice and assembled the halves then added all the nurnies....
11.the dinosaur animatronic from the movie about the little baby dinosaur
12. Various Rocketeer helmets and packs and a smallish model of the Bull Dog Cafe'.

As I remember more items I'll add it....these though, I remember vividly

Hot shot, don't forget to look me up!

Here are a few pics I took back in June 2009. You can see some of the Rocketeer props including the miniature Bull Dog Cafe. You can also see some Honey I Blew Up the Kid props as well.

Great rocketeer pictures.

The little bull dog cafe model was a production model used for the flim to use as a reference to build the bigger cafe.

I have only seen three of them (I own one of them).

I know a member here use to own one. His was cut horizontal ..The one in your photo is cut vertically, and mine isn't cut.

I'd like to see some old pics from back when I was there....one problem, they didn't allow photography there, but I saw photos taken all the time anyway, lol. This whole prop house area was added that you guys have all the pics of when they revamped the backlot tour...the extended queue was added and the prop warehouse. I know when you entered the special effects warehouse old version, there were props 3 stories high, everywhere you looked movie props, excluding what was on the floor in the center, we're talking major props too, everything from 50's up.

Was that the gold one?

Not sure I know what you mean by gold one.
The Johnny 5 they had there had a normal finish.
We had one at the Planet Hollywood warehouse as well.
I remember speaking to Eric Allard about when I was repairing it.

We sent it back to Sony as well.

Here's mine! :) It is fiberglass, it has been beaten up a bit, it was actually tossed by rico on to a dead bug before jumping into the ditch and has some cracks and minor damage, they cut the scene actually but its on the behind the scene footage showing them loading the rocket with the pyrotechnics. I actually screen matched mine using the bluray to the one Rico uses to blast the bug hole right before they get to the outpost towards the end of the movie, so I was totally stoked! The LED screen lights up and everything on it. The nuke had a model rocket engine inserted into the back up it and using the rocket launcher, actually shot the nuke out a ways.

You are correct, it was a "shell"....but designed to be motorized if the production called for it....
