nah i don't hate cgi
to me cgi is a too just like traditional props. its just another tool to tell a story. there are several movies that have been made in recent times that simply could not have been physically possible to have been filmed using traditional means.
some things being done with camera work these days simply aren't possible to do without the use of a CGI camera whipping around in a virtual world
also some movies simply needed to be done in CGI due to the sheer scope and scale of some of the recent movies would make them economically impossible
CGI also takes out many many risks that actors, and their stunt crews would face and in some cases wouldn't even be able to face in real life (think harry potter standing with dumbledore out on the rocks with the waves crashing all around them)
to me movies are about the stories (at least good movies) and i don't care which tools people use best tell the story as long as it IS told and told well without focusing on any gimmicks to sell movie tickets.
