Ideas for me to cosplay?

I've been trying to come up with ideas on what I could cosplay as this year. Planning ahead for conventions and, eventually, Halloween.
The only problem is I've gained some weight over the past couple of years and don't feel like typical go to's like Batman or whatnot will work. Or would not look right.
Could someone please suggest a few cosplay ideas for a 5'6" chubby/fat guy?

In the same boat. How about John Hammond from Jurassic Park? I've been thinking about that one myself.

A few other ideas came to me...

• Batman: The Penguin (many versions)
• The Incredibles: Syndrome
• Spaceballs: Barf
• Star Wars PT: Palpatine, Orn Free Taa, Mas Amedda, Watto, generic Jedi, Rebel pilots (Porkins, Wexley, Carson, Trapper)
• Star Wars OT: Pre-FX Jabba the Hutt, Uncle Owen, Emperor, Obi-Wan?
  (I once saw an incredible Obi-wan walking around with a Yoda puppet in his arms. So good!)
  
  
• Clone Wars/Rebels: Older Rex
• Babylon 5: Londo Mollari, Vir Kotto, Kosh
• Star Trek: Harry Mudd, Cyrano Jones
• TNG/DS9: Aged Klingons and Ferengi, Quark!
• Star Trek movies: Shatner's Kirk and Doohan's Scotty
• Totoro (Adam Savage made the definitive version)
• Pirates of the Caribbean: There are several, but Gibbs most comes to mind)
• George Lucas

And a few ideas of characters that are not exactly portly, but a decent costume still works well.

• Fifth Element: Zorg and Cornelius
• Princess Bride: Vizzini

A few additional thoughts:

• I've also learned that anything cuddly and furry, while hot to wear, will get you lots of hugs!
• A sidekick character tends to attract main characters (and vice versa) for photo ops. For example, my 8-year-old's Indiana Jones found a Short Round!

I packed on a few extra pounds myself, and I gotta be honest, I was thinking of going all-in as Fat Old Man Logan, pasta sauce stains on the wife beater, maybe even glue on a fake meatball to it.
