JAWS: Quint from the ground up (Shoes, Pants, Shirt, Jacket, Hat)

Wonderful ,Quint rules, I’ve been working on my own collection View attachment 1875639 over in props thread.

joberg is right, with props like that we could shoot fan films

I am so happy to see you post here. We all have been enthralled with your build thread. Your work is what we really mean by "master work". Not just the jump from journeyman to master, your custom craftsmanship is da Vinci and Michelangelo level.

Now, BossThreads , has "Quint, from the ground up" and "Props"

And because I am not shy, here is the link to the harpoon build:

Thank you flimzy for the incredible effort.

Lest we forget that I have two test hats that I was about to cut the visor back. If you are needing a halloween hat, let me know. Only a few days left but I have the large and the extra large. If not a rush for halloween, I can finish by cutting back the visor and getting the front pocket stitching done. Let me know.
I truly appreciate the offer, but as I've grown older and things in my life have changed I've had the need for Halloween costumes less and less with each year that passes. On the plus side, now I can stay at home and get caught up on some of the horror movies I haven't seen yet. ;)

I just told my workmates, today, that I am trying to stay distracted so Halloween slips by and then I have no deadline again. ::)

Somehow missed this but this is greatly appreciated and super kind. All is well though and hope you had a great Halloween. I just went as The Dude.

Hat updates are going in my build thread until I complete it so I don't blow up this thread. I bought a smaller size as well and am convinced that the sizing, while incorrect on inches, is correct on sizes if you are calling the large "a large in US men's hat sizing". Throw out the inch measurement given on the site. Here is round one of coloring which shows the threads will need an added touch with colored inks:

Starting my Quint build today. Literally going from the top down as the hat will take me the most time to perfect.

What did you use for the dye?

I did a combination of rit liquid dye. Brown, green and black. Here is the link to the newest hat work (pics of bottles in link):

It is important to wash the hat with very strong cleaner first so it will accept the dye. Most have a treatment coating to prevent color loss and it must be removed. However, after that, no longer do you worry about perfect dye because the nastier the better. Color correct is good but perfectly even dye job is bad. If you get the right color and it is nasty and uneven, that is a win win. All dyes have a color base and black is not really black so to get muddy gray, you add the green (less of that) and brown. Rit black is a purple base I think but the green and brown will make a true gray. You can top coat it dirtier after with light and dark soil, if you wish.

It's been a few! months but here's some pics from my Halloween Quint setup. Also scored an era accurate CPO shirt for evening Quint.

You really knocked it out of the park for sourcing each piece. I know BossThreads has made it achievable with this thread but dang dang, you really hit the ground running on this build.

Thanks and yeah this was a weird build because I found the right jacket probably over 10 years ago and never really followed up. Then seeing all the great work in this thread was inspiration for putting the whole thing together and made it very straightforward.

I shortened the sleeves on the jacket and added the name tab but I still need to add the finishing touches - a few more alterations, weathering, and mods to make it all come together.

I’ve been following this thread for a while now & I’m so impressed with the level of commitment & detail in the sharing of Quint costuming & resources here.
I’m building my own M51 jacket & am currently working on the name tape. I’d like to add some further hidden provenance to the jacket & have been wondering if anyone has suggested a realistic unit or service number that Quint might have had written or labelled inside his jacket? Obviously just for some extra fun & appreciation.

So we have the Hero look. The Town Hall Variant with CPO shirt... now we just need the Quint Shack variant. I reckon he's wearing the same pants. He's wearing the boots he had on at the town hall.... riggers boots? Big, brown and clompy. Then there's the sweater and maybe the apron?

BTW, lots of good Jaws stuff out right now for the 50th. Funko has a Quint 50th with the Shack sweater..... Neca has a great 50th Quint Hero figure. I have their first one at work, I reckon the next one can be at home, lol. I was tempted to make the 50th in the Vineyard but.... MV at the end of June AND the 50th? Sounds like a nightmare.... but still damn tempting.

Sad that the Schieder estate backed out of allowing his likeness. Makes no sense to me. Makes me think that's why Funko isn't doing a 50th of his figure even though they have one already. I'd love to have the trio in full from Neca

Even though they never actually shared a scene together, here's our Quint and Mrs Kintner couples cosplay ... just for fun! (at the Armageddon Expo, Auckland New Zealand, October 2024)

Well, the interesting twist is that while Quint wears an army jacket, he did not serve in the army - he was navy (hence his experience on the USS Indianapolis). There is no logic to him having an M51 army jacket, other than he bought it for himself as army surplus. The stencil is not military issue either, so he must have gone and made that for himself too (which is a rather oddball thing to do!) But, I guess it all adds to the complex and quirky personality that makes his character!
