JAWS: Quint from the ground up (Shoes, Pants, Shirt, Jacket, Hat)

Wonderful ,Quint rules, I’ve been working on my own collection View attachment 1875639 over in props thread.

joberg is right, with props like that we could shoot fan films

I am so happy to see you post here. We all have been enthralled with your build thread. Your work is what we really mean by "master work". Not just the jump from journeyman to master, your custom craftsmanship is da Vinci and Michelangelo level.

Now, BossThreads , has "Quint, from the ground up" and "Props"

And because I am not shy, here is the link to the harpoon build:

Thank you flimzy for the incredible effort.

Lest we forget that I have two test hats that I was about to cut the visor back. If you are needing a halloween hat, let me know. Only a few days left but I have the large and the extra large. If not a rush for halloween, I can finish by cutting back the visor and getting the front pocket stitching done. Let me know.
I truly appreciate the offer, but as I've grown older and things in my life have changed I've had the need for Halloween costumes less and less with each year that passes. On the plus side, now I can stay at home and get caught up on some of the horror movies I haven't seen yet. ;)

I just told my workmates, today, that I am trying to stay distracted so Halloween slips by and then I have no deadline again. ::)

Somehow missed this but this is greatly appreciated and super kind. All is well though and hope you had a great Halloween. I just went as The Dude.

Hat updates are going in my build thread until I complete it so I don't blow up this thread. I bought a smaller size as well and am convinced that the sizing, while incorrect on inches, is correct on sizes if you are calling the large "a large in US men's hat sizing". Throw out the inch measurement given on the site. Here is round one of coloring which shows the threads will need an added touch with colored inks:

Starting my Quint build today. Literally going from the top down as the hat will take me the most time to perfect.

What did you use for the dye?

I did a combination of rit liquid dye. Brown, green and black. Here is the link to the newest hat work (pics of bottles in link):

It is important to wash the hat with very strong cleaner first so it will accept the dye. Most have a treatment coating to prevent color loss and it must be removed. However, after that, no longer do you worry about perfect dye because the nastier the better. Color correct is good but perfectly even dye job is bad. If you get the right color and it is nasty and uneven, that is a win win. All dyes have a color base and black is not really black so to get muddy gray, you add the green (less of that) and brown. Rit black is a purple base I think but the green and brown will make a true gray. You can top coat it dirtier after with light and dark soil, if you wish.
