Another recently finished helmet. This was my first foray into helmet finishing and was a great learning experience.

I detailed pretty much every step of the process, so if anyone is interest, I can post those up too.

Man, seems like you just pump these out! My learning experiences usually don’t end up so well. I’d be interested seeing the progress pics of this and the clone helmet too.

Thank you. I’ll post up progress pics in each thread. Then I can go further into detail on any given technique as folks would like.

Ok, so here is an abbreviated build log of the Death Watch helmet. I bought a cast helmet from Lonewolf and had him cut out the visor and key slots.

First thing was to get rid of the seam line and attach the ear caps. This was done with CA glue.

As I attached them I filled the gaps with Bondo spot putty and sanded.

Next, primer then more filling and sanding.

Drilled the hole for the range finder stalk, then a final primer coat followed by a "metallic" base.

Next, I gathered the proper paint colors and laid down the liquid latex in all the areas that I wanted the metal color to show.

Then, hit the whole thing with the base blue and removed the latex.

Taped off and sprayed the purple.

Also at this point panted the RF and ear cap using the same technique. Also used a chrome pen for the RF screen.

Taped off and painted the grey and lighter blue on the cheeks. There is a purple line here that I taped off before laying down the blue. 3M curve tape is your friend here!!!

Now to the FUN part... weathering. I bought an airbrush and this was my first project using it.

I used this shading grey to lay down carbon scoring and grime.

Followed this with sepia.

Also, at this stage I installed the magnets for the RF cover.

Now on to acrylic washes. These helmets should be VERY dirty, so a mix of black and brown worked great.

Used silver Rub n Buff to bring out some bare metal highlights

Used Aluminum Black to darken the RF stalk.

Drilled a hole and epoxied in a metal faux Borden connector and weathered it.

Finally, installed a head liner and the visor!

And... finished. Let me know is you want any more detail on a given step or materials used!
