Gone but not forgotten.
Heya all!
Well, taking a break from helmet repaints, my next project is the awesome Hasbro Black Series Luke Skywalker Snowspeeder.
Indeed, it is amazing by itself, but, we know better.... : )
Some "as is" shots, and a few of having already broken it down and starting painting.
More progress as it goes!

All silver/chrome and exposed metal surfaces repainted Tamiya Gunmetal, then heavily gone over with Tamiya Black Panel liquid to really darken down and "dirty" the exposed metal machinery.
Hit the cockpit hardware with some black wash as well, but not as much, so only just to enhance the lines and dirty it up a bit.
All colored buttons/lights to be repainted later. Seat to be painted dark grey and weathered later, along with the seat belts getting dark grey, with some white accents on the surfaces of them, to emulate the bubble wrap material they used onset for "padding".

So, all base painting and coloring done in the cockpit....will tackle detailing painting the red and yellow colored lights tomorrow, and the seat belts sometimes tomorrow.
The b**ch of it was trying to get my brushes in all those areas by hand.
I tried completely disassembling the speeder to try to extract the cockpit, but it just wouldn't come apart.
For fear of breaking it, I put the screws all back in and decided to have at it by hand.
Got the braces detailed on the air brake and directional panels as well.
Final putty applications to the first placement holes on the hull, and the finger gap at the front of the cockpit.
Will sand that down later and paint dark gray to match.
The seat belts are scheduled soon as well.

Waiting for some paint to dry so I figured I would weather the characters in the meantime.

Following this! Great job so far, I look forward to seeing what you do with this. I would love to try it myself in the future.

Getting everything back together now.
Just waiting on the putty to dry on the underside of the cannons to shape them and sand them down and then get them attached to the ship. From then on it will be just overall shift weathering and hopefully this thing will be done.

That looks so cool! Shame most of it will be hid by the crappy foggy plastic that is the windows. That is the biggest complaint of this version. I'm still afraid to try to cut the windows out of mine. But I might try a paintjob now that I've seen what you have done. Great job!

I thought about that too...just like the filming model.
The canopy easily pops off, but, the WHOLE canopy IS the clear plastic.
Everything's just painted on.
Would have to be dremelled precisely. idk....
I plan on leaving my canopy open for display anyway...just like they'd have in the hangar when not in use.
That way you get to see the inside canopy detail as well.

WARNING - TONS OF PICS! lol

TOPSIDE allll done!
Yet to do the underside and landing gear.
Am burned out and will tackle later....haha

Starting off with how I filled the scooped openings under the cannons.
Glued in styrene, puttied and sanded them smooth, and painted with Tamiya Med Gray.
Dremelled a hole in end of each cannon.
Super glued them in and set them in place when I finished weathering the front end of the ship.
Decided to leave the engine compartment in the fuselage , and cover panel, open and detailed.
In deciding to want to display the ship with the canopy open, I removed the snap tabs at the end that kept it locked down, if you wanted to put it it down.
The corner I painted myself in though, is that now I'm stuck with the canopy not sitting flush on it's own, and now I can't put it down without a small gap.
I'll have to figure that one out later....
Completed all remaining blaster damaging, applied additional carbon scoring using a charcoal block from a painting/art set, and many qtips, rubbed hard on the charcoal, then well placed dabs, and swipes to produce the scoring.
Completed all black washing
Finally, Dak and Luke ( figures weathered as well, of course ) are inspecting their ride before the doomed departure.

Eventually in next few days I'll jump on finishing the underside and will try to keep the pictures at a minimum. lol
Hope you enjoy!
Let me know if you want to discuss processes, etc.
I'd love to see yours if decided to pursue one!

Ok ...all done!
Got the underside, and the back end finally weathered and painted up.
Repainted the "grey" panels to the Tamiya Med Grey, and added a bunch of new aluminum damage marks, carbon scoring and blaster marks...rust...etc.
Sealed the entire ship in clear matte finish ( except the cockpit glass, of course) to lock in all the paint and physical carbon from the charcoal scoring.
Not going crazy with the pics today.
Just the underside and topside for comparison, and the back end detail.
I'll be taking properly lit and placed pictures later to add the MEDIA section.
Enjoy!
Thanks again for indulging me!

One last observation....
It never stops, no? lol
I may have to look into this.
But, in the actual Empire Strikes Back film, all front view inside the Snowspeeder cockpit shots of the pilots, are all using the same full size Snowspeeder on set.
Pics below with arrows pointing out all the exact same weathering and detail marks between them.
Some arrows are pointing out one of many groups of little dots of detail, but you'll start seeing that when you look closer.
Of course, the lighting changes during the scenes, so some marks may be more or less visible, but you can still definitely see they're there.
They essentially show all their scenes using the same mock up Snowspeeder. LOL. : )
I included Rogue 2's scene in the beginning when looking for Han and Luke, w/no marks just for being complete.
