Mad Max Interceptor

They're similar, but not the same. Every line is different, as is the glass. Just a Ford family resemblance.

The Oz Falcon is kind of the child of a mustang and a falcon mating.

Ah-ha... so I'm only half-wrong. The Falcon is much sexier than that Torino IMO. Plus, who wouldn't want to call their car the Falcon?

I've always had a thing against heavily modifying antique cars. Last I heard, the Falcon's were rare birds as is, I couldn't bring myself to chop one up.

Kind of a double edged sword though, because I'd love to have an Interceptor too. :lol

Shame they don't make replicas of vintage auto's, I think it'd be cool to own some of the rarer pieces at a more modest price point.

And, doesn't Clutch have a couple of original Falcons? I could have sworn somebody here had a handful of them. I think it was him.

It says on 949 XB GT's were made between 73' and 76'. That's what the Interceptor was made from, an XB GT. Think of how many were wrecked, scraped, left to rot, and were chopped up for this and that over the years. Can't be too many left. The XB GT is a rare bird indeed.

I find it amusingly ironic you mention Torino with a photographed of a gated lawn!

they did actually...

it was a Ford Torino Cobra GT
everything from the doors back is identical except the spoilers

Hey, we chop up old Graflexes!

Yeah, but they make the point on the aussiecoupes site:

"The good news is that a GT is not required for the job, a 1973 - 1976 Falcon or Fairmont (trim level not model in Australia) is virtually identical and is a much more economical choice."

This isn't like replicating a classic muscle car with a base model to pass it off as the more collectible car.
This is just replicating a movie prop car,
so nothing is lost by extensively modifying a base car to match the prop car.
Even at that, its too rich a project for me...sigh...

so does that mean it was built on the same frame as the Maverick?
(which had a length of 190.6 inches)

I always thought the interceptor was bigger...

My impression was that the Falcon bodies like the Max cars were the first pure Australian Falcons.
To once again quote aussiecoupes:

"The XA was certainly the first Australian Falcon that couldn't claim close kinship with an American Falcon. Sometime early in 1968 the decision had been taken to discontinue production of the US Falcon. Thus it was that in May of that year, a team of Ford Australia executives flew to America to begin work on what was to become the 1972 XA Falcon. There they would collaborate with senior Dearborn stylists because the Australian operation was at that time considered to be too small to have complete autonomy."
SNIP
"They were all exclusively designed and built in Australia."

There is a tremendous amount of info on the aussiecoupes site.

Don't JUST check out the Max Interceptor page!

A thorough read is well worth it.

I'm blowing the dust off this thread. I saw a nice Interceptor replica here in the states at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois. I couldn't stop taking pictures of this beauty.

A very cool place.

Got my drivers license in the mid 80s here in OZ so saw xb falcons everywhere but no more.
Lucky to see them anymore. the good ones are garaged away and the rest were crushed.
I still drive a falcon but a late model AU.
