My Take On Batgirl Costume

Had a few months to prepare for a costume party I have next week... postage times have been very touch and go and Im still waiting on the real cape ($5 back-up one in the pictures below).

Its kind of a mix between 'new 52' armored style and 'year one' rustic realism incarnation...

My original concept image; from many hours on the internet looking at different purchasing options until I settled on a look I liked -

I had a left-over cotton ammunition belt, fabric dyed it yellow in the washing machine then superglued a fridge magnet I got free when I saw 'Dark Knight Rises' onto the buckle -

And heres a picture of it all thrown together so far - not sure If I pulled the mask pulled on all the way in the picture; hence why it looks loose ontop

I've still got a few things left to do before the party in six days time: got some yellow sticky backed carbon fiber material in the post to add more yellow onto the gloves (which I've since unstitched the logos and makers marks)... I also want to add a 'Wayne Enterprises' logo onto the outfit somewhere as a subtle reference to a certain Mr Wayne's company.

Let me know what you think of my attempt thus far.

It's a nice alternative take on a modern design. I'm curious to know what you did and how you got the cowl shiny and nice after it was "dusty" looking.

Unfortunately I only purchased the cowl and neck piece, I didnt have any involvement in its making... I found a girl on deviant art with one of his cowls and ended up tracking down the maker on facebook and commissioned one for myself.

Upon checking my e-mail conversation: apparently the process involved removing the flashing, trimming the cowl and washing off the mold residue

Oh okay, thanks. I have a Dark Knight cowl that has the same moldy residue looking stuff on it and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to go away and look shiny and nice. I guess if anyone else reads this and knows a good cleaning process, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Fingers crossed someone can answer -

I got a 'Gotham By Gaslight' cowl off Ebay for super cheap and despite the relatively rare number of people out there who make these things; all the people I've spoken to dont have a clue where it came from or who made it.

Sometimes the unanswered questions are the ones that get to us

This thing looks dope, though i have to ask, where'd you get those gloves? I'm in love with them!

Ebay - they're just standard motorcycle gloves... which seems to be something of an untapped market as I've seen some sweet steel ones and another purple pair that are crying out for a Huntress Costume.

steel one is definitely being ordered for my red hood, good god those are sexy

I know right! I wore my M65 jacket over my batgirl outfit while walking back to the car... felt very 'red hoodish'

A tan/brown dyed M65 jacket makes more sense then the traditional leather Red Hood jacket in my opinion - easy pocket access for ammo, light weight and still has the well defined collar

i'll have to look into that, my build currently uses a meh jacket that i found online, its a bit stiff, even after a year of constant use. I'm gonna see if i can pick up a better one while im in morocco, otherwise i'll look into that jacket

UPDATE: cape is finally in the country... with a £70 customs charge, ouch thats an expensive accessory
