New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

Is anyone waiting to get this from thinkgeek or is everyone just preordering from bbc america shop? Aside from the preorders only available from bbca shop, any reason to get it from one place vs the other? I was holding out for think geek just because it was $10 cheaper but if there really is a coupon for bbca to bring it down to 100 then I guess I might as well preorder. October can't come soon enough!!!

That secret feature!! Awesome!

I jumped on the BBCa pre-order too. I like Thinkgeek but I didn't want to risk missing out as their pre-order pages tend to go up at random and sometimes inconvenient times.

The only difference I can think of between the two would be turnaround time from stock arrival to shipping. Thinkgeek is pretty good about that but I've never ordered from BBCa. After pre-ordering from BBCa Monday they did give a "please allow 10-14 business days for shipping" warning. But the other items I ordered at the same time shipped by Fedex ground the next day and will arrive tomorrow. If they are able to manage a similar short turnaround for the sonic, that 10-14 days is just covering their butts.

This is all assuming that BBCa shop and Thinkgeek will get their stock at the same time/on schedule, too. BBCa website says October 15...

It looks so much crisper and proffesional. Is that the final production model? Its truly beautiful.

Thanks for the kind words, but that's the one of the same prototypes that we took to SDCC, just with updated software inside. Firebox shot that video footage a while back but held off releasing it until we were sure about the functionality that we were going to be able to include in the production version.

YAY!! Thats the feature I wanted!!!

Haha - yes. I know I said "probably not" when you asked about the TV-B-Gone feature a few weeks back, but your request was the final tipping point to persuade me to prototype it that evening - as I mentioned before, it was quite straightforward to do, but was just an issue of code space in our main microcontroller. In the end I was able to squeeze up some of the other, less interesting, stuff (such as the factory test mode) so we decided to keep the TV-B-Gone feature in the software for production.

Both ThinkGeek and BBC America Shop will get their stock at the same time from us - I don't know how fast they'll turn it around and ship out to customers, or exactly which day we'll get the stock delivered to them, but as things stand at the moment (i.e. as long as we don't have any last-minute delays) they should both be able to ship out their initial orders on or before October 15th.

Cheers,

Richard

Ooh, thanks for that info Richard. So it may be here by Halloween! Fantastic!

Wait... you added the TV-B-Gone because of folks here saying how great it would be?
So, you had an awesome product that people were willing to buy, and then when they said "it would be more awesome if..." you didn't think "how ungrateful" or "aha, added features for version 2, and more money to be made!" you squeezed the code, to add to the existing product?

Wow. You just went above and beyond on this.

When I found out this was a real "secret" feature I was excited. When I found out that it was last-minute included because of fan-demand I was truly impressed with you, Richard, and The Wand Company in general - and as an 11th Sonic Remote user - not for the first time!

Thank you! Again and again!

There's nothing quite like pointing a Sonic Screwdriver at something - and finally having Reality react the way one expects it to!

Wow. You just went above and beyond on this.

Without a doubt! This is...just a wonderful company. Truly.

When I think about the team running The Wand Company, the only thing that comes to mind is a quote from a dear lost friend.....

"Lovely Chaps...all of them!"

New sonic and soundtrack next month. It's going to be a good one.

Quick question, not sure if this was asked anywhere before, but will there be a "mute" mode? Just to make it easier to get down to the fridge for a midnight snack and not wake people up in the process.

Great choice of Sonic sounds on this. Your electro chip guys are geniuses! Congratulations Team for cramming all of that In. Any chance of seeing the final crackle finish Richard?

Im going to buy one. I have been dreaming of somthing like this since i first started watching Doctor who. I can see it now. grabbing your Sonic screwdriver from your dresser and turning your tv on with it then putting in your Doctor who disks and watching it with your sonic in hand. :)

So, we have our staff meetings once a month, and the TV is usually on when we start and I have to go over and turn it off. Hehehehehehehehe..... This will be MUCH more fun!
