Presenting my AA/DST TMP Phaser

I used a transistor radio as a communicator, I would occationally open it up and 'fix' it; like in the episode "Patterns of force". Good times...

I had that Remco exploration set and utility belt. :thumbsup

Guess I was spoiled by the sounds of it. :lol

I had that too. My neighbor's older brother (the neighborhood bully) smashed my tricorder into a jigsaw puzzle. My parents put it back together with airplane glue and lots of electrical tape.

Getting back to topic (the pics are outstanding by the way :thumbsup)

Aside from the trigger- is the overall sculpt the same as the WOK phaser?

Might just be the paint colour combined with the lighting and angle...

But the TMP phaser looks like it has smoother curves and more rounded corners than my WOK phaser.

Kinda disappointing that it has the same SFX.

I'm just glad none of the sound fx sound like the Playmates version. I swear one of the two settings sounded like a toilet flushing... :rolleyes

You were TOTALLY spoiled! I saw that set in a store once, about 30 years ago, while I was in the store with my dad, and the big meany refused to buy it for me! And after that, I never saw it in a store again! :(

P.S. I was about 7 at the time, and already a big fan of Star Trek, thanks to watching it all the time with my dad. But still, he wouldn't buy me my own phaser, communicator, and tricorder! :(

Oh crap, I forgot about it. I've extracted mine from my TMP. I will see about casting a few tomorrow.

I'm using Rustoleum Light Mechanic Gray, which the folks over on the TrekPropZone claim to be a match (The other recommended match was Krylon Dove Gray, the same as the stuff on the TNG props.) And, yeah, it's almost exactly the same color as the generic Wal*Mart primer I'm using for the undercoat. It's also a lot lighter and bluer than the color the toy came painted.

According to the instructions for the ST:TMP phaser kit from Rodd, the recommended color is Krylon Stone Gray #1306

And according to an article published about 30 years ago, the color was a (now 30-year-old) BMW automobile paint color called "Anthracite Gray". But good luck finding the authentic, screen-used paint NOW, some 30 years later.

I'm not sure I trust the "BMW Anthracite gray" claim, as Google searches for that color turned up cars painted a gray that is clearly several shades darker than any photos of the prop.

For comparison, here's the pic phase pistol posted earlier, and a pic of an EM-33 painted with the Light Machine Gray:

Close enough for me.

ETA: Though looking at my first coat of the paint in person in good light, it looks about a half shade lighter at least than the photos. Hmm.

The TNG props were painted Dove Gray, supposedly because that is what had been used on the TMP props (or so I had thought).
