Prometheus - Elizabeth Shaw

I was looking through Prometheus crew member photos just for fun of identifying their costumes and I thought that it would be nice to put my girlfriend into Elizabeth Shaw character. I made some quick research and I'd like to share the result with you. I will be referring to this photo:

The overalls Shaw is wearing is the U.S. AIR FORCE ISSUE NOMEX CWU-27/P FLIGHT SUIT. The flight suit comes in men's and women's variant. The overalls is very easy to buy and find, it's also rather cheap so it should be no problem with obtaining it.

Second costume part from the picture is the belt. It looks like a bit modified Blackhawk CQB/Riggers belt - BLACKHAWK! CQB / Rigger's Belt - BLACKHAWK!. Similarities are obvious, but maybe the belt used in movie is just something different. Anyway, my first pick is the Blackhawk belt.

I'll be doing more research in some time and I'll be posting the results here. It would be very nice if some of you shared your knowledge in that topic.

Stay in touch ;)

The fastener on the belt looks like one of those outrageously expensive metal side release things, rather like the famous Blade armour. You may find further references if you scout around the forum looking for "blade buckles" or something. Possibly there's a chinese copy of that buckle by now, which may actually be what we see here.

I have two problems with this, though. First, why does everyone wear green in space, and second, how does someone with the name Elizabeth Shaw, which is as English as crumpets and tea, get that accent? Is she married? Is "Elizabeth" a Swedish name as well?

The accent is just the actress being Swedish -- the role is supposed to be English. Elizabeth is a common name in Sweden too (although mostly with slightly different spelling) but Shaw isn't.

go sweden!! :)

skarsgard x2,noomi,bo svensson,dolph lundgren,malin akerlund etc..
gotta love us guys..go minnesota

Well, she could be married to an Englishman, but for crying out loud, rename the character Lisbet or something.

But yes. Skarsgard, Rapace.

Abba.

Ahem.

Yeah it's one of those dang parachute release buckles. They used a mess of them for BSG too. If you happen to find what this belt system is, let me know. The nearest match i've found thus far seems to be the blackhawk belt as well but the main buckle is completely different and the triangular D ring is mounted different in the picture you posted. I'm working on one of the SE suits right now and they too use a modified version of this belt.. I think they just turned it backwards really. I'll be keeping and eye on this so if you happen to find a better belt, please post it. :)

The closest I got so far is Cobra Buckle. It reasembles the overall Shaw's buckle design, but still the shape is different. I'll keep you posted on my research. Thanks for the replies guys, you pointed out some useful things.

Is there any possibility that someone can provide a closeup picture of shoes which Shaw is wearing during the briefing scene?

Any luck with the belt yet? Also is the name patch printed on fabric, or embroidered? I think it's too clean for embroidery.

This is the closest buckle I can find so far, and it is used on a rigger's belt made by Poseidon Tactical/Group but I cannot find a site for them to see if they have something closer to the belt and buckle pictured.
PRESTO II Buckle

Also, the vertical V-ring looks like a V-ring extender, but a short version.

Lol @ bleahhh.

I guess this thread is pretty good for my video. ;) My wife is serious considering going to comic as Shaw (the easiest character in the movie?), so this thread really helps.

I'll be ordering patches next week and I'll post the results here.

As for the boots - thank you very much for the photo allupo. This gives a pretty neat start for searchnig what kind of boots Shaw is wearing.

Hi guys! I'm new here but really want to make this outfit too! ^.^

I have to buy online so I'm wondering how the Nomex suits fit... I found this guide but it doesn't include the women's sizes.
Army Navy Life: Nomex Flight Suit Size Measurements

Seems cheaper to buy the 32S then try to hunt down a women's size which seem to have two options for larger hips (M for med and W for wide). Any idea if the cut is that much different? I'm pretty petite like Noomi; 5'3" and 32" bust.

In this pic the fit seems a little relaxed. Should I get the next size up, 34S? I'm not sure if I'm being to fussy about the fit? Do you think they made alterations or the suit is off the rack, so to speak? Also in this pic her boots look kind of brown compared to Ford's shiny black boots.

Deimoz, I noticed on the pic you posted of Noomi there is a belt loop but I don't know if the suits come with those, just velcro strips at the waist?

As for the belt... looks more like seatbelty material than the heavy nylon in riggers belts due to the stitching. Will a heavy belt move around too much? The hardware seems metal. The bit that seems to hang down looks like part off this UKSF belt. I'm not sure if that part can be obtained separately:

Another buckle that looks similar to the one posted above is the AustriAlpin Cobra:

Lastly, does anyone know where I can get embroidered patches? The yellow patch is probably most important but I'd love all three.

Sorry if I'm rambling. I'm just too excited to make this outfit. >.<

I measured my girlfriend and bought the exact size suit (men's option) and it appeared to be a bit too big for her, while on me it fits perfectly. I would go for the smaller size.

Indeed, there is a belt loop on the photo, but the suit doesn't have any. The velcro strip is in fact a long, one-pieced strip going under a material sewn on the back of the suit from its one side to another. I'm posting the detailed photo. Left side is the closeup of velcro seen from the front of the suit, the right side is the closeup of velcro seen from the side (and a little bit of back) of the suit.

That's correct. The exact triangle part is used in some models of riggers belts. I'm also not sure if it can be purchased separately; I haven't seen any shop selling just this part so I'll be guessing it is impossible.

Here's what I did. I made a hi-res projects, I found a company which is making patches from the projects provided by customers and after many emails sent I ordered three patches. I should be receiving them tomorrow or on Friday. I'm a bit worried about the final effect... If the patches will be decent I'll post some photos.

Thanks so much, Deimoz! Do you find it is more "fitted" on you? I found this discussion earlier and expect women's sizes are the same. But maybe I should prepare to make some alterations anyway.

Thanks for the photo. Do you think it needs a belt loop to keep the belt in position? I wonder if the velcro lines up with the natural waist so I can just wear a belt as a cincher.

I found cheaper rigger belts (not sure of shipping), although they can be found on Amazon and Ebay too.

I'll try contacting the maker about where they get them from. I like the way these have rounded edges.

Ahh. Well I hope they are to your expectations! Have you come across a hi-res picture of the patch on the sleeve?

Yup, that's correct. I ordered 36S and it fits me perfectly, while my actual wearing size, based on dimension chart, is 38R. I think it would be best to visit some military surplus and just try the suit on.

I tested Blackhawk Rigger's Belt and it slides a bit from side to side, so the belt loops could come in handy. Also the velcro strips are right below the bottom part of the rib chest, not on the waist. Looking on the photos of Shaw I assume that velcro is totally cut from the suit and it's replaced with some belt loops. More detailed photos of Shaw's back could be helpful.

Thanks ;) Guys from the patch thread you posted provided some pretty decent pics and projects. I'll post mine when I'll be sure that the final effect is acceptable.
