Scratchbuilding 33 inch Enterprise

Wow, I REALLY like the method you're using for the saucer. Building up the height that way is a great idea. I am so going to do this for my next Enterprise build...inspired.

Also, the secondary hull is looking nice and smooth...you've managed to get the nice tapered profile that I couldn't quite nail with my styrene build.

Your tenacity with this project is admirable...the fact that you started again and managed to really improve the model is extremely encouraging.

Fiber Glassed then bondoed. The pylons are epoxied in, and I can say safely that they are not going anywhere.

More Progress, The saucer is taking shape. I've found that it is O.K. to go back to using plaster for shaping things. The windows are indented into the neck by masking them off, spraying the crap out of it, and then taking off the tape.

Trekman, I like how this is shaping up. The proportions look pretty sharp to me, and I really am enjoying the 'old-fashioned' approach you're applying. I really want to see this completed.

Wow, this all looks so familiar, it's almost like Deja Vu, all over again.:lol

What do you mean old fashioned? And I think we can all hardly wait to see it completed. I believe that the plugs will be completed by the end of the year.

The underside of the saucer is done. Now I nead to correct the angle on the edge. The plans have it as 60 degrees, but when I built it, it came to more of a 45 degree angle, so I made this gig to help.

This looks great, very inspiring for me whilst I attack the Excelsior, I know its a slow process but great fun! Keep up the good work!

Nice progress, it is really starting to come together. :popcorn

I'm a few months away from starting mine, but I've been reconsidering using decals on it. After seeing Steve Neill's Enterprise which (as I recall) use vinyl graphics, I may go that route on my 33 inch Enterprise. I'll most likely test a set from Callie Graphics on my Phase II Enterprise to see how they turn out and what exactly is involved in having them made (hopefully about the same as with JT Graphics, which was providing the artwork as an EPS file).

Because those elements should be the same for both of our models, maybe we should get two sets made up. Or, if you're wanting to stay with water slide decals, I could provide you with the EPS file for having them made.

Keep up the good work! :thumbsup
