Show your custom Lightsabers!

Hope this doesn’t ruffle any feathers…figure this fits more into the “custom” category than the “screen-accurate” one.

I love Luke’s lightsaber, but all the different versions just have individual elements I like. I suppose if I had to pick one, it’d be the V2, but there are things I like from the others still. So I’ve been working on a model that combines the features I like into one “idealized/hybridized” hilt.

Let me tell you, knurling in Fusion is hellish. I spent hours on the turntable knob alone, just for the knurling.

Nothing here is particularly “accurate”, per se, but that wasn’t really ever my concern. I did work pretty heavily off of the Lightsaber Guidebook PDF, though, even if I didn’t go whole hog on the wonkiness of the rings or pommel cubes or anything.
And do you plan to print it? Would love to se how it turns out.

A resin printer would be nice for pieces like this, but oh well. Kind of hard to see how well it printed.

That’s a deep deep well you’re looking into. The most prominent sound boards I see these days are Proffie, Golden Harvest, and CFX. Neopixel LED lighting is the state of the art at this point, but older style “in-hilt” LED setups are widely available. If you’re on Reddit you should check out r/lightsabers and look into their first time buyers guide.

Here are some I did a while ago with my two boys (2 sabers each) out of cheap materials. They liked them!

Here's one I made based on the Luke/Vader shared stunt hilt.

My original lightsaber design: ECC-80 MkII Industrial Ice Cutter (possibly used on Hoth by the insurgents) repurposed as a lightsaber. Designed in Fusion and 3D printed with a metal conduit tube as a frame, then used proffieboard electronics with LED's. It has design cues from the original obi wan saber but with knurling instead of the graflex artsy lines, a bit from the look of the binoculars the Hoth soldiers use, some 70's style lit buttons, the emitter is designed off the tail end of an A wing, the pommel is stolen from the X wing engines. But of course you guys all knew that stuff haha. Anyway, I think this is my first post on here, so Cheers!!

Looks good! Love that you have a story to the prop. Really makes builds better when you think about why and how something would get made.

Here are some I did a while ago with my two boys (2 sabers each) out of cheap materials. They liked them!
These are great, I'd have been over the moon with one of those as a kid.

Couple of questions what are you using as a 'clamp card' here?
Screenshot_20220303-231120~2.png

And secondly, do you remember where this pommel came from?

I'm guessing it's a lens adjustment ring (is that the correct term?!) But it looks far smaller than any I've seen, is it from an enlargement lens or something?

I'm currently working on another saber and something like this would be perfect for the pommel so any info you have is appreciated.

Great work though

Thanks for the feedback. The clamp card is a bit of plastic from a bicycle light (for wrapping around the handlebar if too small) and the rear pommel is the front part of an old cine projector lens. Hope this helps!

Those switches! Where do I get some?

IMG_1793.JPG

Thought I would post my current collection of 3D printed 'sabers.

I modelled these ages ago around using an Adafruit M4 and Prop Master Wing, but the later version (middle saber with blade) is using the Verso sound board. I am trying to make a range that are all interchangeable, so if you like the hilt of one but the emitter shroud of another you can unscrew and swap them over.

I also have a curved hilt design, but not 100% on the size or shape just yet.

The files are available on Thingiverse for free, if anyway is interested.
