Sideshow Golden Fertility Idol Review

I applaud anyone who can afford the Gobler and was able to pick on up, but for some of us, we either could not afford it or were unable to get one, so the SS Idol is one of the better options.

And qouting Funky Jedi, it's "close enough".

Got my Idol today! I'm really happy with it.

Man, it's really heavy and so is the stand.

I've attached a couple pics of it next to the Bluefive idol.

Just got my SS this afternoon!
It weighs about 6 pounds, and the base weighs about 7 pounds. When I ordered it, I had some fantasy about carrying it around in my Mk7 bag, but now that seems a bit impractical.

I took some pics of it for you guys, as close as I could get to match the screencaps:

Please forgive the picture quality. I'm not a pro, I just took these in my living room tonight.

I love all the sidexside comparrison shots from the film. It shows the inaccuracies fairly well.

I was wondering, can anyone tell me where this one came from? I got it from someone here. It has a few small bubbles in the paint or whatever it is covering it.

I don't know but I think it looks really nice!

I believe that is called a Jones FX idol. PHArchivist has a similar idol.

Basically it is the common Ebay Resin idol metalized gold.

Lol! Whoever it was, I seem to remember them doing a bunch and he was selling this one because of the tiny defect. For all you noobs, it's not a bad idea to record the info about your stuff when you acquire it. That way you won't be asking dumb questions like mine. :lol

I have an idea. If you have normal people over to your house show them your awesome fertility idol from "RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK"...but, if you should happen to have an RPF'er over, tell them it is a highly accurate prop replica from "THE MAJESTIC" starring Mr. Jim Carrey! ;)

The base does look nice, but I don't think any talk of recasting it is cool. This product is still on sale, from a licensed company, people!

If you want a base like that, buy an original on the secondary market or sculpt your own!

Al

I agree with Jedifyfe, but another reason you most likely won't see just the pedestals on the secondary market is that they contain the series number, not the idol.

If you see the head-on shot of the Propstore "original" Idol, you can clearly see the mouth is barely frowning if at all. The bottom of the mouth almost goes straight across.

Look at the difference of these two mouths on the same idol. The lower the angle of the photo, the more extreme the mouth looks to be frowning:

Hey Brad,

The more I read on the idols I seem to be getting more confused so need your help. Is the Prop Store Idol the actual Idol that we see in your 2nd picture above as seen in the film?? The reason I ask is that this screen idol has the hairline split, how come there is no evidence of the hairline split on the Prop Store Idol? On the Prop Store website they state, "This version of the prop features static eyes, the brown glass eyes are permanently fixed into the head and do not move." I've read your other threads but I still must be missing something??

I thought the Idol that was used in that screen shot above was in the archives:

Is it possible that the Prop Store Idol with the static eyes is from this scene as posted by Mr. THX and that these two idols had slightly different mouths?
