So, what's QMX got up their sleeve?

I do see some really great paper pieces made by Whitefall! Outstanding work Ben!! :thumbsup :thumbsup

I think it looks like a decent replica for the price and will probably get one. I never considered the earlier offering since over $200 was beyond my small budget.

Now I wonder if you can replace the resin grips with wood without destroying the pistol? Although for resin, they look good.

I think much of the angst towards QMX comes from the attitude Steve presented. That coupled with the early annoucements followed by vaporware has left a bad taste for many. I'm hoping QMX can overcome that bumpy start and churn out decent product. I'd really like to see them acquire the Firefly license in addition to Serenity. I know there's another studio to negotiate with. I'd like to see more series props come out.

I wonder what happened to the stand that originally came with the pistol? I guess that is long gone too...I am not going to pass any more judgements until I see the following three things:

1.) A person pre orders a pistol
2.) The pistol gets delivered WITHIN a reasonable time frame
3.) A review and better pics are posted

Until then, we can keep on arguing about the attitude Steve used to deal with his customers...

That does look amazingly like a Sidkit, with a different clip, an extra screw to hold it in and a hammer.

Wow, no more judgments! The pistol looks fine to me, they had the whole pre order thing awhile ago, and i can see why people are pissed and warry about qmx, but they have released things, they are comming around, there not taking pre orders anymore and only selling things they have in stock, just like it says on there site, cut em a break, if you dont think its worth it, then dont buy it, thats all I have to say

Geez - what a mess. As long as this doesn't happen with more items then I will be ok with it all. But a new company can't afford many errors like this.

I have to say that I agree that their prototype metal "Hero" pistol looks to be made by sidkit. Almost all the components look to be identical in the way the assemble. The frame/trigger guard doesn't match the stunt pistol which has a thicker trigger guard.

Thanks nice that you feel the pistol looks fine, but it's not what people ordered and paid for, so I wouldn't be so fast to tell people not to make judgments...

Let's revisit the advertised product...
For the first time anywhere, an exact, licensed
replica of the shiniest sidearm in the 'verse is finally
available! Fully-licensed and authorized by
Universal Studios, QMx has been given access to
the original prop molds to produce this incredible
replica of Captain Malcolm Reynolds' trusty
sidearm. This is the third piece in our incredible line
of licensed replicas of props, gadgets, and vehicles
from the movie, Serenity. Made in the USA.
Specifications subject to change.
Each replica is proudly made in the USA and is
cast in a special, super-durable, heavy-weight resin
that is highly resistant to shrinkage, breaking, or
bending. Since this was copied directly from the
original studio mold, the replicas will literally be
identical in appearance to the original prop. To
further replicate the look of the original hero prop,
each model is generously plated in copper and
brass and given a black-antiqued finish. Shiny!
(literally).

But wait... There's more! Each model also sports
genuine hand-rubbed walnut grips with machined
metal hardware.
The heavyweight resin used for
each model, in combination with the heavy layer of
copper and brass plating,
gives each Mal pistol
replica a cold-to-the-touch feel and a solid heft
(somewhere north of two pounds, we're figurin'...)
To enhance the value of your Mal pistol replica,
each model will come in a beautiful presentation
package, featuring the Serenity logo and a velvet-
lined tray. An acrylic display stand is also included
that will hold your replica upright in a display
position. Each package also comes with a
numbered, limited edition, full-color metal plaque
featuring the Serenity logo, edition number, and
edition size.
Anything less is gorram junk!
Strictly limited to 1500 units worldwide. And that's it.
We mean it! Once this run is sold out, no other
replicas will ever be produced by QMx, so don't be
noodlin' too long and act fast. Once these are gone,
they could fetch some hefty cash on the Alliance
secondary market!
It's like paying and ordering a Camaro and getting a refund and Chevette in the exchange, while at the same time being told that if you pony up more money and continue to wait they will deliver a Corvette someday...

I have to wonder if the promise of only 1500 still holds true or is it now 3000 since there are two additions, even though they assured you that no other replicas would ever be produced by QMx? And as stated earlier in the thread is the new cheapy model coming with all the display stuff?

As Qmx was so proud to state "Anything less is gorram junk!"

Not sure on the numbers but look on the site and they also show what looks real close to the Origanal Limited money pack complete with the folded poster, it is listed as available and no mention now of it being limited.

Nope, what is being offered is not what was iniitally promised. This is true, and they've said as much. And it became a lousy situation for all parties, also true.

But to go with your analogy, while they were scrambling to produce the Cameros despite unsuspected problems with parts companies, they found out that while they could sell some Cameros (and indeed, already had), many of their customers were saying that when it came down to it they'd actually rather have a Chevette. And some of the customers were saying wistfully that the Camero was going to be great but it would have been even better if it had only been a BMW.

So their choice became to stick with the original plan and produce the Camero anyway, or to actually respond to their customers and produce what more of their market wanted. Does this screw over the original customers who already paid? Some of them, sure, and there's good reason to be pissed. But some of us are relieved that we won't have to scrape up $250 after all for a pistol we can play with. Some of us are even looking forward to the metal one, albeit with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Don't know about the numbers, I'll see if I can find out. Don't know for sure about the displays, but they're not listed in the new description and I'd guess they were also dropped to bring the price down. I suppose they could have been left in and the pistol could have been made less detailed or unpainted, but personally I'd rather have a completed pistol.

Thanks guys I thought I was crazy, it does look like the Sid kit especially the breakdown of parts.

I've been to the site several times and while I think that Acme is making the best gun they can for the price, the finish looks really bad. I noticed they are spray painting the molds? I thought for sure when I first looked that the trigger guard was metal, but it's spray painted in the mold as well.

So Acme charges what $50 for a finished piece and QMX doubles their money?

I'm getting a refund and will use that to find an artist here to paint my Sid kit, I will be much happier and the quality will be better than what I was originally sold.

I have several of their paper products and maybe they should stick with what they do best and stay away from props.

I tottally agree with you on the fact that it sucks that the people who already payed for the product are not going to get what they payed for, I'd be pissed also, im far away from passing judgment on that, I was just saying that they have some decent product out, and some thats comming out I think

Well I guess I'll answer myself, as the answer appears to be no, they are not going to be a limited edition either and contrary to what they said they will produce more then the 1,500...

The first 1,500 pistols sold will include this poster of the Barlow's Guide entry on the Mal pistol's design and origin.

Here's the email I just sent to QMx customer service:

Ok, the Mal pistol issues are getting to be ridiculous & if I'm going to keep my order I want to know a few things definitively, cause there are other options out there for my money.

1) Are we still getting the presentation box with a plaque as 1st described? you make no reference to packaging or plaque now. Or is this part of the vaporware $100 price cut.... no display box/stand or plaque? From your original Ad:

"To enhance the value of your Mal pistol replica,
each model will come in a beautiful presentation
package, featuring the Serenity logo and a velvet-
lined tray. An acrylic display stand is also included that will hold your replica upright in a display position. Each package also comes with a
numbered, limited edition, full-color metal plaque
featuring the Serenity logo, edition number, and
edition size."

2)Are the resin grips removable? I'll carve and finish my own real wood grips if I have too so the grips look decent, but if I've got to risk breaking the pistol to do it its not worth the hassle or throwing the cash away.

3) Originally it was going to be 1500 pistols period... Whats the new Edition size? since the Ad just now says "the 1st 1500 pistols" and no reference to a metal edition size if it does happen.

And just to throw another quote from the original Ad "Anything less is gorram junk! Strictly limited to 1500 units worldwide. And that's it.
We mean it! Once this run is sold out, no other
replicas will ever be produced by QMx, so don't be
noodlin' too long and act fast."

Hopefully I'll get a reply, but I'm not impressed anymore. I'd almost rather buy the bronze casting powder for Wakal (if he still casts them) & have one cast for the price & Qmx's new specs.

The speculation is accurate. The "Hero" version is a modified SidKit. So if QMX survives it will be due to the efforts of Ben and Siderio. Way to go you two guys! :thumbsup
