Spider-man Disney/Sony deal over? New Deal achieved for Spidey 3 & involvement in Marvel MCU

It's almost like there's a curse on this character

To be fair, even in the comics, Spider-Man's job is to get kicked in the nuts by fate. Pick something awful, and it's happened to him and his loved ones.

Seriously, the literal DEVIL of the marvel universe has even been involved is screwing Peter over a few times.

The difficulties in the comic books were supposed to be challenges for Spidey to overcome.
Bickering between suits over the backs of the fans is both egotistical and pointless, and not something a reader/fan can identify with, like Stan Lee intended.

He wanted to place Spidey in the real world for people to see and experience instead of us cowering behind some bullet-proof giant. He wanted exposed and visable weaknesses for both Spidey and the fans to cope with and overcome.
If and when suits bicker though, what can we do? We stand by and wait as they decide about the future of our idols.Insane and unfair.Anything for a buck, or so it seems.Stan Lee would be embarrassed to see how they treat his legacy.

If this is a money issue....it will be solved. Marvel Studios is not done with Spider-Man, in my opinion. Granted, this is all just a hunch, but I could see this working out. I think Sony is trying to push for favorable terms.
I think it's more a guy-now-in-charge-of-Sony-is-a-dick-who-doesn't-like-sci-fi-or-superhero-movies-and-potentially-has-an-axe-to-grind-with-Disney issue...

If I were Kevin Feige, I'd call up Bob Iger and tell him "screw Rothman, let's go talk to Kenichiro Yoshida instead". Maybe they'd have better luck with the big boss. Wishful thinking I know.

Hell, Iger probably admires Rothman's tactics.

On YouTube I’m seeing a lot of “Sony blames Disney”, “Tom Holland says Spider-Man will be OK” and “Why Spider-Man 3 will be awesome” videos popping up. It smells like Sony in full damage-control.

I’m also seeing a lot of “There’s a new deal in the works”-type videos, suspiciously from no-name content-creators with eerily similar thumbnails. I’m guessing it’s just someone fishing for views.

I'm still hopeful, but the longer this goes without new news the less optimistic I am.
I'm sure a 3rd movie without MCU connections will do ok for Sony, but I can't imagine it will do FFH money. Maybe I'm wrong.
In this world of hyper informed fans it's a bit too easy to forget than most people just go to the movies sometimes and don't obsess over this stuff every day.

I agree with Solo4114 above that I believe there will eventually be a new deal in place. Also they have until sometime in 2020 to further negotiate.

If not, then that sucks. However, Sony did produce some good spider-man films by Sam Raimi (not SM3). Although, my understanding is that some of SM3 issues originated, because Avi Arad and Ike forced Venom into SM3 against Sam Raimi’s wishes to focus on the Sandman. So, the formula to a good spider-man movie might be the presence of a good director or producer with a clear vision without certain executive meddling. On the other hand, maybe Raimi was out of fresh ideas, considering the terrible casting and costume for Venom, the terrible costume and flying skateboard for Osborne, and the decision to have KD lang dancing down the street. So that’s probably where Kevin Feige’s influence will be missed as he seemed to maintain a positive consistency between movies.

I think this is a greed, but a different kind of greed, really.

Everyone wants to have a 'franchise' these days. It's not good enough to make a good product, you have to have a franchise. When Ghostbusters 2016 was in the making it wasn't just a movie, it was a franchise with plans for all sorts of things (that seems to have died though).

Disney has the most/biggest franchises.
WB has Harry Potter
etc

Not sure Sony has any and they're using this as they're only avenue to a 'franchise'. Wouldn't surprise me one bit that they looked at their success of the spiderverse thing and though we can make some peter parker movies and some miles morales movies, maybe spider gwen, etc and the bring them all together ever 3ish years for an avengers knock off.

It reminds me a bit of James Bond 'Thunderball', where co-writer Kevin McClory had the rights to remake the story again as'Never Say Never Again'
He attempted to make more new James Bond films until he was fought in court by Eon Productions (who produce all Bond Movies),....but because he had the rights to 'Thunderbal', he was going to make another variant of the story with Pierce Brosnan (before he became Eon's Bond, at the time of Timothy Dalton playing the roll), but that fell through

I really hope that this Spidey issue gets resolved, Spider-man/ Peter Parker, for the first time on screen, feels absolutely perfect,....It would be a shame if it all goes Golan and Globus Cannon Movie style, which is how I would discribe the Venom movie

Rumors are Sony offered 30% but marvel has to incorporate venom into the MCU?!

As dumb as the concept sounds, i get why they'd say that. Gives their side projects more legitimacy. Will make people think anything sony does on their own will be part of the MCU.

If i were disney, i'd say fine. He can be a bit player in S3 or something.

Yeah I prey they can come up with a deal..

I don’t think it’s over just yet

Whatever they think their interests are (including money), they shouldn't forget the fans and the future of the franchise.
And to do everything in their power to resolve this matter. Not point at eachother after attempt no.1 went sour. How are they helping the fan base/franchise with this attitude? Grow a pair and get this done dangit !

Sony is venom obsessed.. that’s what killed Spider-Man 3 (the first trilogy)

They forced Raimi to put venom in there, with the soul purpose of selling more togs

Raimi fought and fought but they won.. and look what happened

I don’t blame Raimi at all for that abortion of a film.. only Sony and their demand for venom.

Keep it sandman and it would have been awesome

I still watch part 3 every now and then, just for the Sandman, for how well he was portrayed and the story about him and his family.Really well done.
Sony pushing Raimi to use Venom makes Sony just that: venom. No wonder they're obsessed about the character.

It’s been on HBO lately and I’ve watched it

You can totally see Sony over influenced that film compared to the other two

At the time the CGI for sandman was crazy.. I’ll never forget his intro and trying to pick up his daughters locket
