Superman: Legacy

This article from Variety covers some newly-shared thoughts from James Gunn, and talks about the music as well:

Most important:

"Multiple times during the Q&A, Gunn kept returning to the point that he wanted the movie, at its core, to be about goodness, and how much he feels the world could use a story that embraces it."

Even more hopeful after reading this.

I didn't think the teaser was good but the trailer looked enticing enough.

I'm not sold on James Gunn just yet but I'm open to it so far.

Broccoli haired Clark Kent, no thanks.

Superdog, I'll pass.

The suit, woeful.

Then why TF did I get Superchills and desperately want to see this??

That's how they git ya.

This looks exactly like the last The Flash movie, even with the same ****** color grading. It doesn't even look cinematic, more like they used their Smartphones. Didn't they say that they will reboot the DCU? Where is the difference to the movies before, I may ask? Besides: it's pretty obvious that they try to rely on that 'cute' CGI dog to get people into the theaters...

And what is up with these annoying circling close-up action shots? Guardians 3, The Flash, now Superman,...

Yeah, I hate that "Marvelesque" color grading too. The teaser looked like it was made for a TV show.

As far as the circling action shots. Yeah, it's James Gunn. That's why I'm very hesitant to expect anything than another iteration of Guardians of the Galaxy.

If the reviews are promising I'll go because I won't be seeing this one on a whim.

I'm seeing intentional symbolism in this trailer, of how the character has been mishandled for so long. Straight away, He arrives crashed down in the ground, beat up. Is this rather what has happened to the character for too many long years? To see Krypto, of all characters, as far from "gritty and dark" as you can get... charging in to the rescue to take him back "home". I can't think this was not an intentional message.

Personally, not feeling the guitar. And without Williams' contribution, this trailer would be half as good.
I liked some ideas in it - people throwing rocks at S is inline with today's society - but it feels like Snyder 2.0.

Gunn's GOTG is still awesome. But nothing that he's done ever since came close to that.

This. The soundtrack is adding a star onto the trailer.

It would add another star if the theme was traditional instruments. That's one area where blatant nostalgia-bait is acceptable. Disney Star Wars does get that right.

This trailer does look unusually "emotional" though. Which is good. Considering the genre and era we're in, it's nice to see them leading with that foot.

I think the music is a really nice way of including the Williams theme without just slapping a new symphonic recording in. To me, much like with Star Wars, the original themes are the emotional core of those movies. Part of why MoS never landed for me was Zimmer's beautiful but faded into the background score. A Superman movie needs bombast just as much as it needs hope and color and personality. The guitar is a fun update to the same melody, and it still hit me right in the man-feels. I'm hyped. Still not 100% sold that it will be a great film, but I'm excited to find out.

I think one of the best takes I've heard of that Williams theme should be treated like the Bond theme... Reboot, change actors, change studios, etc, but the theme is so perfect, it should become almost synonymous with the character in ANY appearance.

I can wholeheartedly get behind this mentality.
It superheroes had a national anthem, it would be the Williams score.

The slow mo 360 shot and variations are something hollywood has been doing since The Matrix came out back 99. Everyone has their own take on it.

IMO the John Williams Superman theme is not the strongest of his melodies.

But it's 1970s-80s John Williams - even his weaker stuff from that era is god-tier in the big picture. And the JW Superman theme has the full brunt of nostalgia going for it because the Donner movies were so legit on the whole.

Wow… well to each his own. I feel Williams Superman score was one of his best.
