TDKR - Obsidiank 2012 Batman Eva Foam Build

coming down to the wire.

So I'm gonna cheat a little bit and forgo doing the back and the spine. It's hard enough to put on by myself as it is and with the cape on all night no one is going to see the back.

Left to do this week is all the leg armor, biceps, and the side armor. Lots to do before Sat but I'm really happy with the progress.

All right guys. Went out last night and suited up and had a blast. In the past couple of months I've had a blast coming to this forum, learning from everyone, and building my suit. It was hard at times when striving for screen accuracy and in the end I failed on a few accounts. I'm happy overall.

Giant list of after thoughts

1. Never got to the mesh suit. Materials didn't arrive ontime/as expected. Not total lost and truthfully no one noticed.

2. Didn't finish the back or the spine. No one would have seen it under the cape.

3. Side armor didn't line up right and was too short. Actually gave me more flexibility.

4. Tried to mount armor on suit using velcro, mounting tape, etc. Finally gave up and just hot glued it to myself. DID NOT burn myself as expected. used heat gun to uniformly reheat glue and bend foam at same time.

5. Unless necessary do not use heavy duty velcro. Impossible to actually un-velcro.

6. Cape actually pulls armor down, kinda choked all night.

7. Urethane cowl is really hot, had to take breaks every 30min.

8. Finally, I think the biggest lesson learn is that this is not a "go out and get drunk with friends" costume. It's a "constantly uncomfortable but everyone loves you and wants to take pictures with you" costume.

Wow looks great! Good job dude! I hope you liked the cape. Get longer wooden rods so the cape span is wider. Oh loved the Carbon fiber details!!!

Cape is Great!. Only problem is that it's a little too long for me so I can't put in longer rods or it drags on the floor. I'm happy with the wing span though

Looks great man. Looks like you used thinner foam than I did on mine and I think it looks better with the thin.

Did you have any issues with the foam tearing? When I got home I noticed a few pieces had torn.

Kickass work

the foam on my gaunlet tore but that's about it. I spent some of the afternoon reinforcing anything that was only 2mm. Most everything is 6mm foam.

Well if you want...only if you want! LoL ship it back to me and I'll adjust whatever you want to mod or add... Free of charge, well just shipping cost.

Absolutely great work! This might be a way for me to get into a batman costume next year without breaking the bank!

a few people have asked me how I got my chest piece done and I will refer you to the template I made which is slightly more to scale in my opinion than the one from sonjou's thread. Additionally, there is the question of the under guard for the chest. Here is the template for that. You will want to print two copies and join the two pieces in the middle forming one long piece. Transfer that to 2mm foam and cut it out as one piece.

Then, only hot glue the top edge of the guard to the bottom edge of the chest piece. If you guide it along slowly you should get the desired result.
