I don’t know if there is a more appropriate place to share my findings so I will just post this here. I seem to have discovered the origins of the Guess Football Player fabric print used on their 1986 Jacket Liners.
Coincidentally Micheal J. Fox was throwing a football around on set in the same style jacket this liner would come with the following year.
After some research I’ve learned that Guess actually took that artwork of the Football Kicker from a painting titled ‘The Punter’ by Joseph Christian Leyendecker that appeared in the Saturday Evening Post in 1908. I assume the copyright had expired by 1986 so it was a royalty free image.
As it appeared on the cover of the November 14th issue of the Saturday Evening Post in 1908.
The digitally remastered version.
Guess actually added the number 86 to his jersey, which stands for the year these particular jackets/liners were made as you can see by the copyright

1986 on the bottom right. They also made two versions of this image with different logos; GUESS jeans & GUESS men, with some differences in the triangle stamp as well.
Since the jacket Micheal J. Fox wore was Youth sized and definitely not Men’s size, in addition to his Guess women’s Style:1050 jeans;
I decided to use the “GUESS jeans” logo and do my own take on the liner artwork just for fun.

I call this one ‘Marty McFootball’
I made Marty look painted in honor of Joseph Christian Leyendecker’s original artwork that Guess used, also I obviously changed the font on the word “Times” and took the copyright back to the year

1985
Now I wonder where this Motorcycle Rider image originates from, Guess definitely took it from somewhere and made their own addition to the jersey once again.
Where is this from, anyone have a GUESS? Likely something old and royalty free like the Football Player painting.
