Yeah...

Just picking up some correct sized acrylic to do some tests on.. and going to try and some glass tests as well

(I have never used my laser cutter on glass before.. so I need to dial in the speed/power for the best results)

Definitely interested in the source file.

I dont see why not? But I'm still kinda of a 'noob' with my laser (although Ive owned if for a few years now)..lol

I have never attempted glass of any kind before.

Figured I'd stop and grab some piece from the local hobby store.. and practice on some small pieces to dial things in.

Is there a difference between 'regular' glass (pane?) and the Starfire stuff you mention?

I suppose I can open up my version (or any artwork for that matter) and give it a shot this weekend.

I'll be on the laser this weekend (sometime).. as I need to make another round of updates on a mini arcade cabinet (RPi/RetroPi) I am working on.

my buttons finally arrived from China, so I need to see if they fit in my scaled down cabinet.

I wonder if the engraving is lit up better on glass or acrylic?

I plan to do a full acrylic test soon. (I can only do small glass tests for now.. but never made my way out to any hobby shop)

* wonder if there is a specific glass you should use? (heat provide cracks or anything?)

Well.. had some time and motivation for this project once again.

(I waited for the vaporware offered by reelprops... never happened. but hey.. guess hes a busy guys from what I can tell, I see several casting threads going on!)


I did a mock run using my original artwork instead...

*I'll need to do some more tests, since it took a very long time to engrave.. so I'll need to play with some settings to see if I can get same quality but in less time.

I use a scrap piece of 1/4 acrylic (cast) for the initial tests..

I feel it came out great!

feedback appreciated.. anyone see something I may have missed? errors? typos?...etc

I just need to get some decent pics of the 'handles' and machine/make a pair and try my hand at molding/casting next!

I'm not 100% sure how the handles look though! I found a few pics on-line... but still a bit suspect.

Got some cast acrylic finally, and some time to circle back to this project,.... (after doing some pcb re-design stuff the last few days/weeks for a DC-17 run)...

I did a full etch & test....

Changed the settings up some, and it was a little faster, but not much. (I'll have to compare both the initial test and this full size test)

This is 1/4 cell cast acrylic on the tests/pics..

Once I figure out the handles (which I'd like to discuss with anyone who has interest)... I'll focus on getting the glass versions (not sure if this too will be 1/4 thick! lol)

Also looking into: Indium Tin Oxide Coated PET sheets for part of the electronics as a variant.
