Anakin Clone Wars costume inspired winter coat

Halloween 2008 my youngest went as Speed Racer and STILL wears the jacket I made him:

It was such a kick to see a costume piece become a part of his wardrobe that I decided to make both my kids jackets this winter that would be warm and durable... and of a selection of costumes I gave them from Luke's yellow ceremony jacket to a batman inspired jacket, they went with Anakin Skywalker from the animation Clone Wars. Both of them! So... I've been working on these for about a month and am just about done.

Here's what I have so far:

My older son is getting one too, his is still in the works. Both are fully lined with a fleece coat I bought in their sizes which helped me make the pattern to fit too.

Thanks guys! :)

Toby, haha! I was going to just do a black knit cap, but you gave me an idea, why not modify a ski mask?

I'm just hoping to finish the older boy's coat before it warms up again! :p

if you had a way to mass produce those, I'll bet you would easily be able to get the license from LFL...what fan of the Clone Wars wouldn't want that?!

It's been such a pain making 2 I can't imagine making more! haha! But I guess if I knew what I was doing I could lessen the amount of handsewing by planning ahead more.

I really do like the idea of making costume inspired jackets and coats, so I doubt this will be the last one.

I've been wanting to make film inspired everyday clothing for a while now, but haven't had the chance to do so. The closest I ever got was the 1/2 scale Jack compass pocket watch, as a sort of practical every day item.

He just came home from school and we got the reaction we were going for: nobody knew it was a costume coat until he told them, and then they were thrilled and thought it was really cool. :thumbsup

I didn't want my kids to walk around looking like they were wearing costumes, but only to have it be inspired, so this is great.

However there was one glitch, I left a pin in and it stuck him. :eek The teacher couldn't get it out because it was sewn into the lining. He said it didn't hurt and 'it's okay, mommy'. Still, could have been bad.

Propazoid, you wouldn't like my rules. ;) :lol

Toby, I've always thought a version of Jack's coat could be done... There was a time when I was going to make this center coat for Kev's work winter coat, but I never got around to it:

I'd use the one on the left for the back of it here:

That is so cool! Have you thought about making Anakin's actual Hoth-inspired coat from the "Trespass" episode?

Thanks, Moo!

Danakin, I never even considered it because I hadn't seen that one in a long time and forgot about it. I just looked it up and that looks really warm! I think I'm done with coats for the boys for now, though.

My older son's coat is done enough to wear (gotta make the shoulder armor) - he's going without the belt option, which looks better, I think:

The bus was coming, so he ran off before I got a good shot of the back. :lol

Trouble is, the shoulders are so big that his back pack doesn't fit on him when he's wearing it! I may have to get him an over the shoulder bag now.

Thanks! :D

He came home from school today and said any kid that spent more than 2 seconds with him recognized it as Anakin's armor. :) I guess the Clone Wars is big with 5th graders. I'm so glad it was a hit... part of me was a bit nervous he'd get teased for wearing a costume. Not that he'd care, my son couldn't care less about what others think of him.

Nice work! I would have loved something like that when I was their age!
Or even now, actually.
