CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster **UPDATED**

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

I guess I need to start saving money now to get one next year. :D

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

I am doing a few versions, these are the options:
a glossy paint job on the black parts, wires hidden or glued on the outside, rust paint finish, and paint rubbed away near the butt plate.

Most wanted a like new model like the day it was issued to Deckard, not the rusty torn up model found at worldcon.

The ammo housing is crude in real life, it was designed to be inside a wood stock not out in the open. I used to remove all tooling and molding lines from my old models, but now work hard not to on this version as they are there on the real prop.

I had to remodel and retool this part to get these details back...

not the rusty torn up model found at worldcon.

A tad overstated, no?

Nice replica. Not a fan of the satin finish, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder (or owner}.

Congrats, Eagle, on getting this through in the nick of time ;)

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

Perhaps, but I was a bit sicken to look in the barrel and not be able to see the rifling because of the rust.

I don't think so. If you own real firearms, they have to be maintained, oiled, and cared for, often. You can't just stick them in a case and leave them for months or years, or they'll get rusted over time. Even just sitting with no use.

I was disappointed and shocked in the condition of the hero prop too.

Rich, like I said over at Propsummit, this blows away everything else ever done in the Blade Runner Blaster arena.

And Eagle took some pretty pictures too. :)

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

I like the idea of customizing "options." I don't doubt there are some collectors out there who would prefer a model that replicates the condition of the Worldcon gun exactly, as it is today :rolleyes. That said, more than a few would elect, as Eagle has, to get a "representation" of the prop at an earlier stage.

Congrats (again) to Eagle on a very nice piece, and to Rich for putting it together.

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

Great looking piece...There's a lotta work in that one!

I'd go for that version if I were looking for a replica.

Cheers :thumbsup

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

Eagle said he opted out of the white wire, the only thing that looks 'off' for me is that the paintwork doesn't look glossy enough compared to the pic of the original. But I can't see anything glaringly wrong, looks pretty damn good to me. :)

Blad, et al.: I guess there’s a limit on how much swimming against the stream one ought to do, so I’ll just stop here by saying: if you’re happy, more power to you.

I can see the differences, just don't know if they upset me, nothing a hammer won't cure. :)

As it is, the only way I'd be able to get one now is if it was painted orange and purple. :(

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

One orange and purple model coming up...

Again semi flat looks better, and also there is the lighting, in other lighting and a flash the black can look nearly shiny, the grips look more orange in different light/angles.

And again order one the way you want it and I will build it that way, gloss black is no problem.

Do you want the cut wires and only one working LED in the left side of the clip liike in the film??

And of course rusty very rusty....as it was when found.

I can do it.

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

Are the gunmetal parts (barrel, Steyr receiver, bolt, etc.) polished (like a real gun) and then left unblued or are those parts in a matte, flat or dull finish? The real Bulldog and Steyr parts would have been polished and then blued, and then left to weather to the way it looks on the Worldcon. Many well used field guns have little or no bluing left on them, but the metal is smooth. However, since the Worldcon may have been both unmaintained and unhandled, perhaps it became the victim of surface rust and pitting which would have left a flat finish.

Rich, will the metal used in your replica develop rust over time?

Also, the little metal collar on the mag, left side (opposite bolt handle side) abve the red lights looks a little larger on the Worldcon photo. Is this a photo illusion or is there a physical difference?

Looks great. Can't wait.

A light polish is done then scotch bighted as to remove bluing..

and then left unblued or are those parts in a matte, flat or dull finish?

More or less these are not steel but a super fine Pewter, so I get the dull finish first them add the blacking.

The real Bulldog and Steyr parts would have been polished and then blued, and then left to weather to the way it looks on the Worldcon, but the metal would not have had a rough/flat finish...

Remember these parts had their Bluing stripped off by steel wool, sand paper and perhaps scotch bighting…this action would scratch and mar the finish and that is how the gun looked to me and in the photos.

at least that's the way the unmaintained guns I've seen are. The guns have little or no bluing left on them, but the metal is smooth.

That is natural ware not a rush job to strip off the color done to this gun.

No might grow duller…

Could be off a little I am trying to find something that fits, currently plastic tubing threaded and the cut seems closest…

Looks great. Can't wait.

Thanks.

A work of art as allways Rich:cheers:thumbsup

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

I personally feel that the grips are still a little off-colour.

However, here's a comparison shot of the CS&T, Original and CS&T in the same light with direct flash. It's not spot-on BUT, there may have been other lights present when the Original was shot (e.g, tungsten) which have a warm cast - these could have influenced the apparent colour in the grips.

The main thing for me is that I have it in the UK before the ban - tweaks can be carried out now at my leisure. I'm guessing that Rich could produce diferent colours of grips if desired...

I'm sure it could be 'painted' in a non-sticky, coloured latex. When it arrives, just strip it off. :)
