Eagle, would you stop showing stuff off!

Your going to cost me money because now I may need the metal one from Rich.....:cry

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

Most wanted a like new model like the day it was issued to Deckard, not the rusty torn up model found at worldcon.

Rich

I agree. The guy hoarded the gun for years and couldn't even put some oil on it.

Nice work. The one big difference I see is the top of the grip. The Worldcons has the screw right near the edge, and the grip shape seems 'tilted forward'. Orange original is 'richer', but may be lighting.
The gun is a very complex shape with every part affecting the others.

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

I shot the prop both with flash and with available light. The Convention Center had a very high ceiling but the ambient light was VERY bright and seemed to be about "daylight" colored. My flash pictures were shot by bouncing the light off the ceiling as I recall (tho some may well be "direct" flash. I may have removed the flash from the camera mount and held it off to the side for some shots as well).

I did shoot some pics with a gray card so I was able to correct the color pretty accurately.

This one was shot with room light.

The grips on the original prop seem very transparent, are glossy, and have an "amber/orange" coloration. The grip frame is BLACK under the main body of the grip though and this darkens them down to a rootbeer color.

i actually love rich's color of the grips. i'm sure it was hard to tell what the exact color was based on photos, and memory can only serve you so well, but when looking back on older versions of the blaster, the bright orange grips always irked me, especially when compared with the dark shots of the film, when they looked somewhat brown. Rich's interpretation is perfect to me... an orange/brown that looks realistic and appropriate for a noir sci-fi film.

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

Has anyone ever considered that the original prop might be wrong?...

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Rick, i think its the most beautiful thing i've ever seen!

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

The one thing I really wish for is to learn the time line for when and why they made chages to the gun.

The stunt model seems to be the earliest version, no LEDs, a cut rod in the side rod and the flat butt plate.

Yep, with ya on wishing to know that as well. And the gun isn't the only prop that changed mid-production is it? Be very interesting to know who had thier hands on the blaster for it's different iterations.

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

I can not believe this is my first post on this here :)

I have sent some messages to some people that might have some information about the shooting timeline. If they don't have the actual shooting timeline I know they could reconstruct it. But that would be more work than I think they would be willing to do unless they have already done it. Well see.

The Gun looks great, even though I still do have some issues with the grips color and clarity. I do know Rich is working making better grips though. Also the gun uses real screws and isn't glued together.

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

I forgot to ask, is the ammo housing and LED box plastic? wasn't the worldcon one plastic? I guess it would contradict the "all metal" tag if it was :rolleyes

Rich, do you have a spare plastic ammo (LED) box available to sell in it's raw form?

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

One thing I have learned is everyone sees the grips differently, they are so many colors from so many photos....

I have matched them as close to the majority of pictures of the real gun.

These are the new grips.

And yes the housing is plastic as is the clip, as they were in the real gun, so I still say 90% metal or all metal as all the parts that were metal in the real gun are metal in this model.

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

That is some amazing craftsmanship Rich. I have one of your older models and after seeing these pics I think I may have to save up for one of those. :eek

Re: CS&T All-Metal 'WorldCon' Blade Runner Blaster

Just put this on display (sorry no camera) and it looks the business no comparison in my mind with other models out there, you pay for what you get in my mind, quality!
And just For info (and as I was too dumb to work this out!) to put the bullets in the Worldcon blaster Rich gave me these instructions.
Push the thumb release Forward as in a real gun and pull the cylinder and its cover down and open.
Pull the thumb release back..

Push back to close, you may need to wiggle it to get it to lock.

certainly helped me out! probably only me but ya never know :)

Hairyloft,

Congratulations on your new prop!

I understand the "no camera" situation. But can you let us know what options you went with on yours? Did you get pristine, new paint? Wires exposed or hidden?

I ordered the wires hidden, LED switch on the left (As everyone built kits before the worldcon pics) and the old slotted screw on the right side. So I'm curious to see what other combinations people are doing. I think that's part of the fun.
