The wife and I just got back, she didn’t wear anything special at all, but I went with a Han vest over a white linen shirt and then next day over a blue one. (with a normal T-shirt the third day) I got harassed by stormtroopers for having questionable allegiance, but I had Imperial ID’s for the wife and I.

I know I am not really wearing Star Wars styled clothing but just got back from Hollywood Studios and had to say that we had the absolute best time. Smugglers Run was better than I could have ever imagined. To be able to see the Falcon up close and personal was a lifelong dream come true for me!

As you all might remember I work in New Orleans Square, so I see the Disney-bound people and the various merchandise etc.

Today I saw something I hadn't seen before: a Guest walking around with a lightsaber hanging from his belt.

It looked like the Obi Wan ANH one, very nice.

So my wife and I will be going to Galaxy's Edge at WDW at the end of October. I was planning my wearing a military cut lightweight jacket that I've sewn Cog patches on the shoulders and had for years, with black pants and black Chucks.

Sort of like this one:

I assume that will be okay and not run afoul of the "No Military Clothing?"

The other question, and I think I know the answer to, is my wife was interested in wearing her flight suit from her custom smuggler that she made for Celebration and Dragon Con. It actually has no Star Wars insignia or patches on it, nor Aurebesh writing, just a custom green flight suit in the Rose Tico technician style. I figured that one would probably not be acceptable, but, is it that much different from "Rompers?"

I actually think in both cases you would be okay.

I just got back from WDW last night. Galaxy's Edge was incredible and I can't wait for Rise of the Resistance to open. I had no issues with my bound. Chewie and Rey both liked it, haha. The Stormtroopers were very interested in my datapad.

Small update: *annoyed grunt* I didn't realize the Emperor robes came in different sizes. For some reason I was thinking they were one size fits all (I guess because they were sold in Dok Ondar's, not the robe shop?). So...yeah...pay attention to that...I accidentally got a 2/3x which is going to be way too big for a mannequin...Hopefully Disney will let me exchange it by mail. I'm not going back until April.

My wife and I just got back from our trip to WDW. We went to Galaxy's Edge twice, on our first day in our "Civilian" attire to feel it out, and then went back on our last day in our "Bounds"/Costumes:
Batuu3.jpg

I did the simple Military Style jacket and Cargo pants, and my wife used her Rose Tico/Resistance Ground Crew style flight suit. No issues with Security or Cast. All the cast outside of Galaxy's Edge complimented our costumes and Security didn't bat an eye or say literally anything at the gate (but maybe because this was during Halloween and Mickey's Not So Scary Party?)

We did get some nice interactions with Chewie and the Resistance Spy, but the rest of the Cast Members, the normal shop employees and such did not seem to notice or treat us any differently from the folks in "normal" clothes.

When Chewie saw us he roared at me and came over and messed with my hat, and his handler was "translating" that they didn't recognize the unit logo on my hat (It was a personal patch for my Friend's Scout Trooper) and offered to recruit us to the Resistance.

VI, the Spy, and I developed a rapport over the course of the day. I initially tried to "rat her out" to the Stormtroopers while they were patrolling and she was lurking around the crowd behind them and then to First Order Lieutenant when he was leading the Patrol later in the day, but the TKs ignored me when I told them I saw her lurking by the garage and the FO Lieutenant basically told me I shouldn't speak to him unless spoken to first, I would be an embarrassment to the First Order, and not to interfere with the First Order's Operations on Batuu. Neither the LT nor the TKs made any comment on my clothing or asked any questions about our affiliation with the Old Empire of the First Order. So later, when we were sitting by the Fountain and Vi walked by and stopped, stared at me and made an "I'm Watching You" gesture, as she had over heard me trying to tell the FO that she was behind them, I told here we were Cool now because the LT was a "Moof Milker" and she came over and was super friendly and "Recruited" us as Double Agents.

I do get it, the Resistance are the Good Guys, and Disney probably wants to reinforce that by having all the Resistance Face Characters be super friendly and interactive and the FO characters be cold and unfriendly, I just thought it would have been a little more "Fun" if the First Order were more inclined to have a more Positive interaction if you had on Imperial gear and especially if you actively tried to assist them, even more more so when the LT gives that big speech before his patrol about "Loyalty will be Rewarded!"

I'd imagine that the stormtroopers wouldn't be too responsive to what you say because they all have generic pre-recorded lines; when you hear them speaking that's not the person in the armor talking, it's a recording (though I'm not sure how they choose which recording to play), so their options for response are limited. The officer would have to play along with that as to not make it look too obvious that it's all scripted. Vi and Rey would be able to interact with people more because they don't have to worry about those pre-recorded lines.

If a First Order officer was by himself or herself they might be able to be more interactive and responsive, but as long as the officer is walking around with troopers he/she is probably pretty limited in how they can respond.

Ideas

If you want the look of a boot but the comfort of a sneaker, then might I suggest half chaps.
ster-catalog%2Fdefault%2Fdw0b12b5cd%2Foverlay-gray.jpg

They serve the same purpose as riding boots so have the same look and you could wear them over an existing pair black shoes you know are comfortable. On top of being far more reasonably priced(starting at $20) then a full set of boots, they’d be easy enough to take off if security gives you grief.

Instead of a holster what about a hip/thigh/drop leg bag?
71xsl1LnwdL._SL1010_.jpg

Visually, it’d sit in the right place, be a great place to carry stuff and if you already have a Han belt you could follow Epbot’s tutorial and convert any small suitable bag into one. If you look in the reviews for this bag, someone actually wore it to Galaxy's Edge as part of their bound.

I thought of this thread because this week I saw a couple Guests in some of the most complete Star Wars costumes I've seen.

A couple days ago there were two guys dressed as Han Solo walking around together. Their outfits varied, one guy was halfway between the costume and Bounding, but the other guy was in full Han Solo costume complete with boots and the full belt rig with holster. The reason it jumped out to me was that his rig was made left-handed, so I could see the holster perfectly as he walked by. The other guy had the belt rig but I couldn't see whether or not he also had the holster.

Then yesterday there was a guy in full Rebel soldier style costume, though his belt rig had a pouch standing in for the holster. He was, to my eye, in costume from head to foot with boots on his feet and a cap with goggles on his head, Rebel style jacket, and belts and pouches.

This guy I chatted with. He said the only thing Security objected to when he came in was the low-slung pouch strapped to his leg (standing in for the Han Solo style holster) but when he opened it and showed them that it was just a pouch they let him in.

Oh did I ever mention a couple months ago I saw a whole group of Guests, around a dozen, all dressed in Imperial grey-green tunics and caps?

I'm seeing more Guests wearing Jedi tunics and also more Guests wearing lightsabres on their belts.

Still, most Guests are staying well within the Bounding ethos.

Thanks for the report! From what you say, it seems that security is more concerned about people bringing in dangerous items in pouches rather than having screen-accurate costumes which could be used to impersonate Disney castmembers. Wearing a full Imperial Officer uniform is quite official looking, especially as there are First Order officers as castmembers. If they're letting them through, I'd be inclined that many soft uniforms from the established costuming clubs might be able to get in. What do you think?

Bringing in potentially dangerous items is a concern but they're not going to stop you from brining in something simply because it might be holding something dangerous in it. In Anaheim, there's a security/baggage check before you even get on the tram or bus to the park, so if you have a bag of some sort on you, they will check it.

As far as military style clothing goes, I wouldn't worry too much about that. I went in the park and GE this past December wearing coyote/khaki tactical sort of jacket with a Glock patch on one shoulder and an EGA on the other, carried a khaki "tactical" shoulder bag, and black combats (under jeans) and nobody bothered me at all or even batted an eye. Had my bag checked at the parking lot but since there was nothing that I shouldn't have in it they didn't care. As long as you're not going in looking like you're going paintballing or airsofting I think that there's a lot of leeway in terms of "military looking" clothing.

An update: I was talking to some fellow Cast Members about all the Star Wars costumes Guests are wearing, pushing the boundary between Bounding and full costume, and they told me that Guests are putting things in their backpacks to go through the Main Gate, then getting fully dressed once inside. True that a jacket (for example) that pushes a Guest's outfit from Bounding to Costume might just look like any bit of clothing if rolled up inside a backpack. The other obvious thing is having pants cover boots until inside the Park.

The thing that I marvel at is the full Han Solo holster rig, which I've seen Guests wearing on several occasions. (True that I most often see it with a leather pouch in place of the holster.) Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, because occasionally I see Indiana Jones guys wearing holsters too. How do they get in with those?

To clarify about the whole group wearing Imperial gray-green caps and tunics, they were wearing blue jeans in place of the uniform pants and boots.

I think as long as the behavior of guests in these soft costumes stays kosher we won’t see muc backlash. It’s a little skeevy to effectively be sneaking this stuff in I agree, but as long as they keep the blasters and questionable gadgets away I don’t see a crackdown happening. Disney seems to want as much goodwill about GE as they can get.

Just found this thread while googling for bounding ideas.
The cast member who spotted a guest wearing a lightsaber on his belt *could have* been me but I was there nov 23rd not oct 1st.
I was letting my savi saber dangle from a snap hook that clips to my belt - got it in a police duty belt section of a surplus store, but I was just in jeans and a t shirt. (Oh but I DO wear a backpack that is almost identical to lukes survival pack on degobah!)
No bounding for me yet but I would like to go for a sort of cal kestis or resistance era Jedi. I saw a vest on amazon that's almost like a sleeveless version of lukes bespin fatigues that was cool.
And I like the look of that leather pouch posted above.
Really cool stuff fellas, keep it coming!
Oh and I live about 2 hours south of disneyland so I make trips about once a quarter if I can. Cant wait to ride the new ride!

Pic of the vest in mind attached here...
