Disney wants more 'Star Wars' in its theme parks

Its been the same policy for some time. I was there for a Halloween party and they were fairly relaxed about it, but they ejected a girl in a Tinker Bell costume for having a a very accurate looking costume if you get my drift. Saw the same thing with an Ariel costume the same night.

I don't think that the atmosphere is going to suffer from a lack of costumed adult guests. There will be plenty of theming going on in the architecture and as long as the cast member costumes aren't horrible, seeing costumed cast members will go a long way too. Carsland is a good example of the immersion and atmosphere that Disney can bring to a land when they really put their minds to it. I don't think that many people are bothered by the lack of anthropomorphic cars running around the land, I know I'm not and I feel like I'm almost really in Radiator Springs. Besides, kids are going to really buy into it and, to me, that's who really matters the most in terms of immersion. When one of my nephews was younger, about 5 at most, and my wife and I took him to Carsland for the first time, he really thought that he was in Radiator Springs, he was in awe of everything he saw and kept on asking us, where was Filmore? If this is the same reaction that they get out of all the young kids that visit GE then I say that they've done their job and done it well.

One thing I'm a little (not a lot) concerned with is how forward/aggressive cast members are going to be with all their world building and stuff. Not there aren't occasions I want to pretend, but normally I get to decide when those times are. I don't want outpost denizens coming up to me and running lines. I'm just fearing Ren Faire-level "forsooth, might ye fancy some fine wares from the farthest realms of Lameassistan?" crap.

The Pandora employees will reference “the documentary” if prompted about AVATAR, so I think we might all be on a one way trip to lameassistan as it were.

Exactly. Cast members are expected to act a certain way in the parks (yes....some in the past have not followed the expected guidelines and have been fired or arrested, but for the most part they do a good job). If a non cast member is walking around in a convincing costume, and they are acting inappropriate, or start harassing women or girls, Disney does not want ANY confusion. If a non cast member in costume is walking around and swings a lightsaber and isn't paying attention and cracks a child in the mouth behind them, and knocks out some teeth... you sure as hell know Disney does not want anyone to say it was an employee. So they need to enforce this so there IS NO CONFUSION and they can eliminate the possibility of any liability. It IS NOTas harrisonp claims, with Disney just being lazy.

That’s a good understanding of it.. I didn’t think of that.

I understand all that, and at the same time I also wish there was a middle ground here. Not to mention that some of us with really good costumes would probably be in character far better than the parks employees.

And you just illustrated why Disney does not want people wearing costumes. You just stated that some guests will take things way too far and walk around “in character” all day. Disney does not want people other than employees being “in character”. They know some costumers take dressing up way too seriously and get it in their head that they are part of the show. It is when people start feeling like they are part of the show and more important than they really are, that they start to give the impression that they actually work for the park. And there in the problem of confusion comes up.

Plus, unlike other states, Florida isn't really big on unions, but Disney employees sho' 'nuff have one. The union had stipulations about outside costumes. When we (501st) used to march the Star Wars Weekends parades, there were characters our members couldn't portray due to those stipulations.

With as many people as they know they'll have in that park I can just see a lawsuit waiting to happen with some misunderstanding like that. Risk management must be a massive job there.

Oh yeah, that's definitely a concern, I'm sure that all theme parks are chock full of ambulance chasers just waiting for something to happen so that they can convince the "victim(s)" to sue. There's a story in a book about secrets of Disneyland in where they were filming a safety video in the park and an actor "tripped" at which point an ambulance chaser quickly went up to the actor, handed them their card and told them that they could sue the park for their "accident".

Speaking of liability, the concept model has steps and huge cracks with like 8" edges all across the pavement. I doubt those are being implemented.

Oh ye of little faith.

It is very easy to implement the cracks via a design. You can't make ACTUAL cracks unless they don't present a trip risk. An actual crack that can be tripped over is a lawsuit in wait. But they could easily do believable cracks that aren't trip hazards.

Disneys version of "Star Wars" is in my own opinion horrible by which Rey learned the force instantly and many other reasons. Disney is just trying to make money and for that reason I am really happy that episode nine is going to be the "last" Star Wars movie in the series. If I go it will be to go the Millennium Falcon only.

You sure you wouldn't want to go for the sick merchandise?

I doubt it will be the case, but it would be cool if the new saber hilts could accept the old build your own saber pieces. It would really open up customization even if it would be two different materials

Just read over on Disney and More that you have a 4 hour time limit in the land before being escorted out by apple quacks (storm troopers).
