Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

Terrific job Mike. Must admit I nearly split off the main gun housing from the airbrake box myself but got worried about it registering back accurately when built. Sounds like your approach is a great bit of lateral thinking!

All you need now is someone to make some little clear orange visors for the pilots! :)

Re: Echo Station 57, we're on our way....slowly

I think mike made some great points inherently the hulls
of the speeder are going to be weak it's just part of that shape
and design. I noticed once adding the canopy things strengthened
up, but even then I couldn't do it without the top hull being taped
down at the correct height first. I also noticed it was nearly impossible
to make the canopy separate and cut out all the view screens
and then get it sit up in the hull!!:angry Every time I cut the screens out
the canopy would weaken and change shape, so I had to build it up
on the hull and glue as I went. Then I came back and cut out the screens
as it was locked in place.

At that point if your going to sit it down you still have to tape the sides, abd yes the boxes will add some definite support as mike said, but i would still
suggest keeping it taped down!

This is the rear bulkhead and it's just a paper template for the part
that I cut out in 3mm styrene, once it's fitted the top hull is rock
solid and you can set it down on it's own weight!:thumbsup

Here it is in plastic ready to be glued in place.

Thanks guys, it really is a great pattern by Nick, it's a tricky subject and it was really well executed by him.....

Anyway i am just about done with the test build, there is a few odds and ends that still need to get put on, and maybe tweak some weathering here and there. I am pretty happy with it considering it's a quick test build, assembly was overall pretty easy, the paint is the heavy lifting on this one...
thanks

Mike I would love to see how you went about mounting this
guy? The first one I built sits on a cradle!!!LOL:lol

Got the kit today. What a freaking beauty, and it's HUGE. The castings are beyond flawless, and the detail is just amazing.

Large by this.

Oh man, you guys need to watch Empire Strikes Back again, tonight. I'm watching it now for reference.

What a great movie.

Yes it is. Wish ROTJ could have kept more of the same tone. When I was making the patterns I had the Empire soundtrack on almost constantly, really got me in the zone!
