This is my first post here on the RPF so I thought I'd share a project of mine that started a few years ago. I didn't get into doing prop replicas until around 2018 or so, but I knew from the first time I saw Elysium that I would love to have the ChemRail. Eventually, I got into 3D printing and started printing any free files I could find on Thingiverse and MyMiniFactory and then decided I wanted to learn how to model stuff myself. That began my journey into learning Fusion 360 and I've been modeling props ever since. I think I started the 3D modeling on the ChemRail somewhere around 2020 to 2021, but there were some aspects of the model that I just didn't really have the skills to finish it at the time.
So I took a break from it... for 2 or 3 years.
Then finally about a year ago I sat down and spent time finishing out the model. I know it's not 100% screen accurate but I'm not really one for screen accuracy. My rule of thumb is if you can immediately identify what it is just at a glance and it has most of the details, it did its job. Despite the paint cracking, having to sand it again, me breaking part of it off, me gluing parts together crooked, and not getting all the print lines out, I'm still very happy with the final result. This is the biggest 3D printed prop I've done so far so tips, tricks, and constructive criticism is always appreciated!
