New FX Lightsabers with REMOVABLE BLADES

Has everyone forgotten that the first wave of MR Anakin ROTS and (I believe) Vader ESB FXs actually had the removable blades, they just had a pin holding them in place. I have a first wave Anakin, I removed the pin years ago. It's awesome having a removable blade but it's not new tech.

And what's the problem with rereleasing FXs? Would you prefer they never release these popular sabers again and have them go for ridiculous amounts on eBay? The FX line is a "toy" line for all intents and purposes, they are not limited edition collectibles. I am glad that these sabers will be around for years to come and I don't have to worry about picking one up RIGHT NOW for fear of having to pay double for it later.

I mean there's reports online from Hasbro that the blades won't be interchangeable between sabers. No Vader blade on a Obi-Wan. Why would that be an issue if they're just hollow tubes?

If I understand it correctly, that could mean two different things. Either they're not interchangable as red and blue LEDs have different current requirements OR the blades can be swapped but it won't make any difference as the LEDs are in the hilt (you can put any blade in you want, but the Vader will still be red and the Obi or Anakin will still be blue).

I guess we'll see. Maybe? I haven't seen any of the newer FX sabers (Dooku, Obi TPM, Ventress) in the stores, so who knows?

Where are those pics you mentioned, by the way? If it's not a bother, a link would be cool. Thanks.

I am one of those strange guys who bought two sabers to have one with a blade and another to hang at my side with a costume. I think this really sounds promising and I would love to get my hands on a Luke ROTJ.

First and second pics.

Non interchangeable blades.

And pretty much you're reading into something I didn't say. The blades aren't interchangeable. I didn't say they could be switched and it doesn't do anything. It means you can't swap a red Vader blade into an Obi-Wan and get an Obi-Wan with a red blade. The LED string is in the blade, dude. I can't say it clearer than that. The scrolling power up and down effect is a major selling point for these FX sabers. They're not going to kill that and put one LED in the hilt.

As far as the Dooku, TPM and Ventress: they are all regular FX's with a non removable blade and LED strings in the blades.

I Want a Qui-Gon. I wonder what the boys at Ultrasabers will do with these. I've got an Obiwan Episode 1 conversion coming from them.

Oh really? I believe I have a first wave Vader ESB...do you have pics of the process?

I don't have any pictures from when I did it. I just followed a tutorial I found either here or on FX-sabers, it's been so long I can't remember which. It's nothing special, just the regular disassembly and you just take out the pin (maybe two pins) that secures the blade to the hilt's inner casing.

To mod your 1st gen ep3 ani...

Remove the copper buttons and brass activation switch (held by glue that isnt much stronger than rubber cement) there are screws under each that will be obvious. (just be careful with the activation switch there are little metal tabs that slide out of place and hard to get back right!

Then you can slide out the blade and the internals. next you will see metal pins push through with some sort of coat hanger etc and grab with pliers on other side... gently twist and pull out. Slide back together sans-pins rescrew the screws in place, slap on the buttons... and voila! :)

BACK ON TOPIC WHERE ARE THE PICS of the new sabers?

Thanks for the links.

And I do know what YOU mean. I was just throwing out scenarios for what "non-interchangable blades" COULD mean. Not an argument, but wishful thinking on my part.

And I never quite understood the "ladder effect" LEDs. Sure it looks cool, but it can't change the fact that the blade is always there. Ramping up the brightness on the LED provides a decent effect, so I don't know what the fuss is all about.

Hasbro already makes flashlight sabers for $20, no need to downgrade the FXs. ;)

Speaking of which, I finally saw the new Obi ROTS electronic saber today. To say I was disapointed would be an understatement.

First, it looks nohting like the picture on the box. Not even it's own box. The pic showed a reasonably proportioned saber with a slightly oversized neck/windvane and a emitter that wasn't too bad. The actual item? First, the entire body appears to be 1.25" in diameter vs. 1.5". The forward grip looks way too small, and the final solid ring before the neck is completely absent. And the worst part is the neck/windvane is actually thicker than the forward grip!

I think the photo on the box may be the old electronic saber with some details adjusted by photoshop, rather than an actual item.

Has anyone bought one? I'm curious as to the contents on the "Lightsaber Battles" bonus DVD.

I was in Target today and they had a new electronic saber I didn't know about... Yoda's. So I bought it. First, the "Lightsaber Battles" DVD SUCKS! The footage is poorly edited and the original soundtrack music has been replaced.

It's MUCH smaller than the old Yoda sabers, but still bigger than the MR/Hasbro FX version. Because of the way it's assembled, it's impossible to disassembled it without destroying it. The center appears to be two half tubes screwed together, but the endcap and emitter are single pieces glued to either end.

Initially I took the brute force approach and tried to pull the blade out, but finally broke down and dremelled it off. I then ground out the inside of the blade mount to accept a 3/4 inch polycarbonate tube.

What can I use a diffuser? I think I saw somewhere that some have use cellophane gift wrap. Is that any good, or is there a source for white foam tube?
