Well I finally broke down and ordered a few kits. One is going to be built as the walker version from the series the other will probably be the version seen in warehouse in the pilot episode.

Size compared to old vacuform kit.

Size compared to old Lindberg 1/72 ID4 alien attacker.

I tore apart a couple old flashlights to salvage white LEDs and soldered them to perfboard.

The main green lens was sprayed with Krylon clear matte to frost the inside.

This is what it looks like so far with the LED board placed in front and LEDs placed in the tips.

Now I’ll set back and wait for the lighthouse beacon I ordered to arrive that will hopefully simulate the death ray.

Would have been better than the last movie if you ask me. I read that they designed the WotW series warehouse as homage to the end of Raiders. Supposedly the scorched box under the left war machine is the Nazi crate the Ark was stored in.

Looks great!!

Thanks!

Wow, really looks great. I'm looking forward to to mine as well. At first glance I mistook your battery for one of those old giant capacitors, lol.

I made this MWM master-pattern about 20+ years ago.
My model is 1/48 scale, but measures a full 12 inches across (not 11").

I'm still gonna go ahead & cast this, later this year.

I used Rub 'n Buff for all the parts. I thought, instead of doing a regular Earth base, it would be more interesting to see a colonized Earth instead, where it'd turned Martian red.

Though, I found that rub 'n buff really wasn't very good with such smooth surfaces... it kept rubbing off, so I primed the pieces. It didn't help much. And every time I'd done one section and was doing the next, where the work sections overlapped... the new appliance smeared off the older one... was pretty frustrating, so I ended up smearing on enough to cover the whole surface instead of doing sections... and rubbed it on all over.

I'd probably do things differently if I was to do it again.

Looks pretty darn good NoHumorMan. I’m going to have to try Rub ‘n Buff one of these days.

Thanks. Well... the finish makes it look a bit used and battle worn... so I guess it's not so bad after all. But it was a pain, so remember not rubbing it on in sections, but rather the whole surface at once, if you try this to get a more uniform finish. :thumbsup

Oh man I love that ship! Brings back plenty of memories. I'm picking one up friday and happen to have some of this lying around.....

I used this stuff to simulate the copper plating on the hull of my 1:96 scale USS Constitution. Once dullcoated it looks perfect.

I was unaware that this model was around. But even if I had heard that MiM had them, I would NEVER send them a nickel. Plus until recently I had a four footer so 11" seemed a little understated.

I not only have a 4" footer but one of the only ever made 1:1 Aliens from the film also!!!!! Stands almost 4 feet tall!!!!!!!!

Check my link, pics somewhere in there.

Love WoTW!
