Just checking to see if there are any new progress pic's and info you could share. I am looking foward to building up a few of these kit's. :)

Man, I've waited for this for 40 years since i saw the original series at age 7. This is dream come true.

I loved the P1 John did and got 3. Now i hope to see the P2 sometime soon as well.

Thanks John!

John posted additional photos of the shells for his up coming kit on his board and I decided to update this thread. These photos serve to verify the scale of the replica shells as compared to the originals.

rats, now I need a new keyboard!!!

Looks awesome. Can't wait to get my hands on one. I believe it will be safe to OFFICIALLY put this one "to bed" after this kit comes out.

Would I be the first to note that the grill pattern looks SLIGHTLY different on Johns recreation??? I noticed it a bunch of posts back, but didn't have a chance to chime in. Will this be corrected in the final release??

Looks beautiful.

Curious--if these are castings, warts and all, why is the texture different and how/why were the holes filled?

The rubber casting was of the inside of the shells. The texture is part
of the kydex sheet, so it will vary. The cut outs had to be filled in so the
rubber wouldn't run out :lol

Thanks guys.

As for these being castings, they are...kinda. That is to
say the tooling the replica shells were pulled, or "formed"
over were indeed castings taken from an original set of
screen-used shells. So, the new shells are not castings
of the outside of the real shells, but rather they were
vacuum-formed over a casting of the original bucks taken
directly from the inside of the real shells. The pictures in
the begining of this thread will probably explain it better
than I just did:lol

Thanks again for the kind words guys.

John... Will this kit require the same level of build-up as the phaser 1? For example, will the buyer have to solder the lid together?

I'm really not rushing these to market. I want to get them
to you guys, but I'm not willing to compromise the quality, or
accuracy in order to do it quickly. I'm waaay picky...you'll
thank me later:lol

John,

Your Trek TOS P1 were worth every penny. I could tell it was quality from the parts to the packaging. I'd encourage anyone who hasn't gotten one to snap it up before the opportunity is gone. The P1 was an exact to the show replica. Nice to see the Comm coming along the same way.
