Oblivion Inspired Office Build

I love this so much. Was watching from the beginning. Just a comment, not a criticism. If it were me, I'd make all of those grey parts brushed aluminum. Oh yeah!

Prime! Sand! Repeat!

The sides (front and back) will be the same matte gray as the cabinets. The trim and panels that span the width of the cabinet will be gloss white. Then, the desktop; the bezel around the monitor; and the curved panel between them will be matte black. The desktop is actually Formica to keep it from getting scratched up.

I had knee surgery two weeks ago and am just now getting back into the shop to get back to work.

I started painting the parts on the main piece of the desk and priming all the loose pieces. Parts tend to spread out everywhere with this many pieces and it will take time to get them all prepped and painted.

My priority is to get the main piece of the desk painted and installed. Then I will get the smaller parts prepped and painted. They will each get installed as they are ready.

I found a real nice Matte Lacquer Clear at Wal-Mart of all places that I am using on the black parts. Should blend nicely with the Formica desktop.

Glad to see you're back to it. I hope your knee is healing well. Don't overdo it and mess up your knee... we'll be here when you have updates!

I appreciate it! It gets a little better every day.

Painting is my least favorite part. I tend to get impatient and screw it up. Maybe the knee will slow me down enough to get good results without having to redo anything.

Great paint job: looks like melamine from where I stand(y) It would be bad to go too fast on the paint job and ruining that beautiful piece of furniture.
Taking your time will pay more than you can think:)

Thanks! I am going to do my best to take my time with the painting. Even if it means just one section a day. Hate for it turn out bad because I rushed the last step.

Amazing... simply amazing. I've never seen anything like what you're doing, it's absolutely impressive. (y)

It's been a while since I updated. I spent three weeks in Boston and a week in California. Now, I am back home and back to work on this desk.

Just before I got busy, I had several setbacks on progress.

If you recall, I originally intended to use an All-in-One PC on the vertical panel. That would also power the monitor on the desktop as well. However, the screen did not lay perfectly flat and I could see all kinds of challenges with the mount. I decided to get a standard VESA mount monitor to install instead. During my travels, I did my research and decided on a Dell S2415H monitor. When I went to order it, the web site told me there was a newer one, the Dell S2419H. I found a good deal and bought it instead. When it finally showed up, the monitor did not have a VESA mount like the older version. So, I returned it and bought the monitor I wanted in the first place.

That came in on this last Monday and I engineered a mount for it to fit in the desk.

Lastly, I had painted the black pieces and then went to put the clear coat on and all the paint lifted.

After several attempts to get it fixed, I bit the bullet and went and bought some better quality paint that wasn't so temperamental. Today, I was able to get over that hump and got the black pieces painted!
