Never been clear on this... so the shared stunt is a casting of the V2 but painted like the hero?

It was a copy of the Obi-Wan saber cast in metal. It was repainted to look like the Luke Hero saber in ROTJ, though it was the basis or the ROTJ saber. It's the v3 in my head. Personally, I like this version of the Luke saber the best. I prefer the Graflex clamp over the Hero activation box and the steel, black, copper color scheme. I'm configuring my v2 saber to look like a v3. Park's/Korbanth's LS6 is in effect the v3.

Since Mark Hamill never actually handles the Hero prop in Jedi and only in the cut cave scene, otherwise it's always the V2, is this V3 ever used in the film???

This, and the V2, were cast from the same wooden buck in aluminium to be used as motorized, fencing stunt swords. They eventually scrapped the motors for both and they were used as "duel stunts". By RotJ, these two were used for different things; what we know as the V2 is/was used as a "belt hanger" and, what we now call the Shared Stunt, was used for dueling. Post-RotJ, the V2 scampered off the production somehow and the Shared Stunt was altered into what it looks like now to more closely resemble the "Hero". The "Hero" is actually a dressed up version of one of the "Yuma" stunt weapons, which was in turn, made to look like the Obi Stunts.

Right. The Shared Stunt and V2 were most likely almost identical initially but deviated when each went their way during the course of production. The Shared Stunt, the one that this interest thread is about, is indeed the one shot into space and most likely dressed up to look like the the Hero (the Hero is a "spruced" up Yuma Stunt, most probably one of the swords seen in these photos) post-RotJ for publicity purposes.

The Yuma stunt hilt(s) with short dueling rods are completely separate from the Shared Stunt/V2. From what the more learned members have cited, they were machined in-shop in the States when filming for the Barge sequence started and there are quite a number of differences between the two. Mostly in size and shape, from my understanding.

The one that launched from R2, I believe, is considered to be a resin stunt casting of the Shared Stunt/V2. thd9791 could enlighten more on the subject. He's far more obessessed with the Obi stunts than I am.

At least not as a "hero" so to speak; it was most likely used for the duels for Luke and Vader, though. Most definitely for Obi-wan and Vader in ANH. There are other "touring" sabers but that name is commonly given to the resin casts of the Hero, from my understanding.

This specific version of it would most likely have been just for publicity post-RotJ, though it is a genuine, used prop from the OT, and has gone on tours several times.
